I loves a musical!! "Into the Woods" is probably my all time favourite!
I don't really like modern musicals. Give me a good old Rogers and Hammerstein any time!
e.g.
Sorry the quality is a bit ropey, but gawd! That woman can sing!

One of my favourites is Jesus Christ Superstar. I love the original album with Murray Head as Judas and Ian Gillian as Jesus. The vocal performances are extraordinary.
I love most musicals though

I love a good musical, whether it's an old Rogers and Hammerstein or a more modern one.

That was the first musical i ever saw on stage when I was about 15 - Paul Nicholas was playing JC, I simply loved it and went back another four times in very quick succession.
I wasn't ever so keen on the film - but I do like this one

Yeah the film is very non traditional isn't it? It's kind of a take on the hippy counter culture of the time. I like it though, for me the modern aspects gave it a real relevance.
Funnily enough, although I can't stand the Lloyd Weber and think he is a bit of a plagarist I do love Joseph as well and Evita.

I'm off to see Love Never Dies tomorrow I'm very excited. Hoping to have afternoon tea somewhere really nice and then off to The Gourmet Burger Kitchen after the show (I know it's not you're cup of tea Veggie).
I'll be back on Tuesday with a full review! it was a Christmas pressie although TBH I wouldn't have chosen this particular show - I wasn't terribly impressed with Phantom.

Have a great time Soozy. I don't know what the gourmet burger place is but maybe they sell veggie burgers
That's a nice Christmas pressie to get though - something you'll use and remember afterwards

'Grease' is definitely my favourite!
Used to love to watch 'Seven brides for seven brothers' when I was younger - mainly for the pretty dresses & maybe a bit of Russ Tamblyn (my brother was named after him)

A clip from my all time fave (film) musical.

This is my theme song... the words are very pertinent to me.
Best song from Moulin Rouge...
Love it Ditty
Daughter & I love Moulin Rouge Sooz... we wail along to that song, and Elephant Love Medley & Come What May when we are on the school run!
I do think it should end ten minutes earlier than it does though (the film)... I hate the sad ending...

Oh and we sing along to the soundtrack of the Rocky Horror too..

Mine too! Stephen Sondheim is a musical genius!
I absolutely adore musicals - have been to far too many to mention.
The biggest disappointment for me was The Lion King. Absolutely awe-inspiring opening song ... then, just okish for the rest of the time

Oh - that's interesting - I've always fancied that.
It's worth it for the first 10 minutes sooz ... just don't expect them to keep the standard up!
I hope you have a great time tomorrow and will await your review eagerly

I prefer a quieter start and a build up to a cracking finale that has you outa your seat wanting more.
I love this!
I enjoyed that Scotty i don't think I've ever seen that film all through - only seen bits and pieces!
My all-time favourite stage musical was Cabaret.
The London stage version with Judi Dench. (Not the film with Liza Minelli)
I returned to see this show over and over again. I saw several cast changes, but Judi Dench remained a fabulous Sally Bowles.
The staging was excellent too - good choreography, strong emotions, and brilliant, brilliant lighting. And of course the smashing music by Kander & Ebb.
It's a pity that there are no good quality videos of this version on YouTube.
Here is a poor(ish) quality video showing Sally Bowles' first entrance.

I absolutely love musicals - I think I've seen most of them on stage at some point or another over the years - although I have never seen Les Mis but will make a point of doing so.
West Side Story is one of my favourites too Scotty - also The Sound of Music and Calamity Jane

Doris is wonderful and she is still going strong - I beleive she is in her late Eighties now and heavily involved in animal welfare.
There was recent documentary about her on Bio channel I think it was.

THe other day I was walking round salisbury cathedral with my OH. They have a light installation there made of lights and recycled lemonade bottles (its dead good).. anyway they have very heavenly choir music playing and OH said "I feel like im walking round the set in an episode of Morse" and i said..."No I feel like im on the run from the Germans in the sound of music" I do love that film.
