is there any point in listing birthdays for unknown and non existent posters? not wanting to be causing trouble just asking who and why thought it would be a good idea.

but it takes up so much room so what's the point of it? serious question and not in the least meant to cause controversy. although maybe it will with some
well quite. normally in forums it's a quiet bit that relays the information. and if anybody wants to congratulate they can or not if or if they don't want to. confused that this enquiry should cause any bad feelings
I find it strange....
i like it
Much appreciated but they should have stuck with just the calender link at the top the page.
It has obviously been added after a great deal of investigation and analysis to make sure that it was going to add value. I know that several posters have said that it has made their lives more complete than they could have dared hope. And some didn't.
I think people should give it a chance and see how it is looking in a years time.
I like it now nobody will not have a birthday thread.
At the risk of being shot down in flames I don't like it. Anybody else willing to step up to the plate and say it's a rubbish idea?
Dobby and captain marbles didn`t have birthday threads yesterday.
which will make them feel they don't have any friends and don't deserve one no? The point I was trying to make before being told from now on publicly my comments are going to be ignored by at least one person in here

The intentions were good but I don`t like it either.
It has the potential to include and exclude.
I think it`s best just to check the hidden calendar for birthdays.

Perhaps someone should be appointed to check all calendar annotations to ensure that birthday felicitations are delivered. Or maybe a Standard Birthday Thread where members names are automatically populated by the software whizzos, plus a Standard Unbirthday Thread to make sure those celebrating Unbirthdays do not feel excluded.
If its too much for the software perhaps those enjoying both birthdays and unbirthdays could start their own threads or even get one of their forum chums to do it for them so we have no more disgraceful episodes like Dobbygate and Captain Marblesgate alluded to by Scotty ^^^
for someone like me who has a brain like a sieve I find it useful but I accept that there should probably be an option whereby you can opt out of it if you don't want your birthday displayed.
I have a feeling (though I could be wrong) that threads are only ever started for people who are known to post here????

Happy birthday Fletch and if it isn't today (I haven't checked) you can save this wish until your next one

I see what you mean. I feel that because it`s announced beforehand the surprise element has gone and no-one wants to be the first to start the thread. If you know what I mean?
of course Pengy. that's all I've been trying to say but I have been made to feel excluded from having an opinion by some who seem to think she's some kind of forum boss and make folks with opinions feel like crap. Admin welcome feedback negative or not yes?
Now that you ask ,I would prefer it not to be there.I dont like the idea of it being someones birthday and them not getting a thread started or feeling obliged to start a thread because its someones birthday.I know what I mean.
Fletch, you don't have to have your birthday displayed if you don't want.
In your personal settings there is an option you can tick, "not to display your birthday".
If you tick that, your birthday won't appear on the calendar.
That's why mine isn't there.
What was there before? i mean down the right hand side? Does it really matter its all just a waste of space to be fair.

Yes admin do - the mods here are very open to any suggestions. if you pm (i.e. start a dialogue with) either Lori or Rosemary they will listen to your views
@ Scotty - I hadn't thought about the surprise element - tbh I'm usually trying to forget I have a birthday as it means I'm another year older
there again it does encourage me to specifically to hunt for relative pictures to add to a birthday thread for others and personalise them when I'm feeling very creative.
I can see both pros and cons to it

Oo thank God someone sensible to answer your query Fletch - I'd not realised you could do that cos I'm so computer illiterate

My son ticked the box for me when he registered me on this site, 'cos I was too thick to do it for myself.
Who's Fletch?

Norman Stanley Fletcher (NSF), Ronnie Barker's character in Porridge - and the guy in NSF's avi.

I thought the Avi was something to do with the national front, didnt like to ask in case I offended anyone.cheers ( never seen the show Porridge)
I can see it looks like Ronnie Barker now.

You had a great birthday thread last time. Remember the singing penguins?
I love all the creative stuff that you, hoochie, baby bunny, Dame Anne etc do.
Carry on the good work.

A lot of the people in the calendar don't come here anymore, so in retrospect I think it's a bit of a waste of space...
We managed to have birthday threads for everyone HERE without any problems

It just suddenly appeared Supes and I thought hey ho what`s this? Checked and it was a.... calendar.
