Most of my favourites have already been done: A-ha, Godley and Creme; and Madonna did some brilliant videos - even for songs I didn't care for all that much. However, the comments about Freddie Mercury's last video reminded me of this:

I remember watching a documentary about Cash, and when this came out his family were all on the phone to warn each-other that they may find it too difficult to watch...

That was great, Scotty. Hadn't seen that video before, and it reminded me a bit of Peter Greenaway ("The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover").

 

OK Go do seem to be the modern equivalent of Godley & Creme: really trying to push back the boundaries of the artform. Here's a more recent one of theirs:
