If you can screen out the street lights with your arm held horizontally just below eye level you can often see the night sky better, but that will depend on where you are and the amount of lighting.

The moon was in the night sky up to about 13th March. Over the next few days it started being seen in the early morning into the daytime sky. From about the 20th it was only in the daytime sky and very close to the sun - so it might have been hard - if not impossible - to spot. It is now moving to a position away from the sun and should be being seen in the evenings. By the 26/7/8th it should be back in the night sky, but is only a thin sliver at this stage.
