Croc, I sincerly hope with all my heart (the new one )that you never see someone dying of it - its very draining, disturbing, soul destroying and the fact we are helpless adds to the grief.

I have...my mother...but I still think they get more than enough of the pot and other charities deserve my portion more.

I thought I had replied to your pm then realised I hadn't Red Face sorry hun

as for your question here I would say this. Both medical research and child protection are funded by my taxes in this country - animal protection is not.

If you were to add what money is given to both of these causes by the taxpayer then it would come to a lot more than 3 quid.

i understand what you are saying about medical research but they must need more before before they are on TV asking for donations ?
I am a pet lover, and dogs preferbly, but cats can be fun too - because animals ARE lovable - if they are loved.

100,000 strays were picked up last year.Veggie thats a lot .I thought to own a dog it the owner had to be licenced ? I often wonder where the money goes - and where the animals end up ?

you dont need to have a license to have a dog, not yet anyway...i think that would help ALOT tbh. atm you can get a dog too easily, too many people buy them, even from some pet shops and some people breed them for 'cuteness' or money making....some just can't be arsed to neuter then find themselves with a litter they can't find homes for.

a license is one step the government could take to help stop this happening

I used to donate monthly to the NSPCC but when another child sexually abused my son and the NSPCC bought his abuser a football table for xmas I nearly hit the roof. The only support we got from them was a quick visit (which I had to phone 4 times about) and more or less told that that sort of abuse happens a lot and is just kids experimanting Mad like fuk it is. So I stopped supporting them, why should I help buy my sons abuser a gift??

They should bring in licenses to be allowed to have children in some cases! As for the amount they spend on TV advertising, that alone proves how much money they are conning people out of raking in!

Yes I agree.TV advertising should be free for Cancer Research and similar.
Somebody isnt doing a hard enough job with these TV Companies.

Disappointed

thats similar to what i said the other day (about it being common and that excuse being used too easily)
why on earth did they buy him a football table?

i've had some not nice dealings with them too, so i can totally understand Frowner
alot of my friends had to put up with abuse, and the NSPCC just kept taking them back making the KID apologise for running away Mad

i donate to both..but if i had to choose...i'd choose animals. i prefer animals to people, and animal suffering is often due to humans.

plus dogs dont breed unless the owners let them...by not neutering to keep numbers down.

I agree - I donate to both, but do agree with the above.

As angry as I was, and still am, I felt that they didn't even try to get to the route of the problem whcih left me to fester about what happened. The other kid was only 7 so why wasn't it investigated why he did what he did, where he saw it and why he thought it was ok to do it to someone else. They didn't even bother to 'talk' to the other kid for 6 months. 6 whole months! And even then he had 3 visits and nothing was ever really resolved. It was a few years ago now and I've dealt with it and don't hate the other kid....I knew him well enough to know that it stemmed from his upbringing but still.....it all sucks.

I used to sponsor a kid in Ecuador through Plan International. You have to bloody write to them and everything! No-one told me I had to do that. What are you supposed to write about when you live in a house with an HD TV and he lives in a bamboo hut? Frowner

You can send a letter or package once a month upto 60g. I thought about sending a nut or bolt or something every month from his age of 4 with a view to his having all the bits for a car by age 16. Smiler

You don't HAVE to. I've never written to mine - I wouldn't know what to say and besides, I don't think she and her family should have to feel grateful and beholden to me for my few lousy quid a month.

It makes a difference to them and their community, but I don't miss it at all. I spent more than that in Boots this lunchtime, so why would I need to play Lady Bountiful?

It just makes sense to me that, if you've got the money to spare, share it with others who need it. No need for any drama.

I get pics like that of mine as well. Poor girl! Big Grin

It crossed my mind that there's one kid in every village who is selected to be The Kid for all sponsors. Smiler

I think each village has a few. The ones in mine (in Togo) have had a clinic, immunisation programme, water wells and school paid for by sponsors, which is great.
