Other than the Cancer one i refuse to sponsor anything - wots the point

Despite wot i am sure is serious and sterling work on behalf of the indiviudal - their efforts are toothless

RSPCA - our abuse of animals is at its worst apparently
NSPCC - don't make me laff, children continue to die
Pandas - David Bellamy wrote an article recently about how the WWF had betrayed the Panda

I know things may be a lot worse without these organisations but its like turning up at a volcano with a dust pan and brush.

We need multi-national legislation change in the Law forcing people to 'behave' ... basically, or else

I see where you're coming from, but I don't completely agree. I'd just as soon give cash to ensure an endangered species survives, as give money to a human-centred charity.

We're all part of the same world. And I believe how we treat our fellow animals is a fair indicator of the kind of people we are.

I give to Breast Cancer research as I have a family member who is on her 4th year of remission, next year is the big one, and I give to Cats Protection as, well I love cats, and the RGT Retired Greyhound Trust as they are such lovely dogs and deserve a fantastic home when they retire and it should be publicised how much work this fantastic charity does with the help and support of all greyhound tracks in the country.

If anyone is thinking of having a dog, please consider one, you will not be disappointed, these gentle giants fit into your home wonderfully and many are cat friendly.. please give them your support. Ok advertising over!!

My husband gives to Dogs Trust as he loves dogs, but we made these choices ourselves, not by the TV adverts.

TBH I'm not keen on them, I always query why the money is used on advertising, surely it would be better spent on actually helping the people/animals concerned and there are adverts I actually have to switch off because they upset me so much, especially the animal ones.

pretty much my feelings too pinkbabe. i dont donate to any charities that do adverts (or adverts i have seen anyways) i donate to some close to my heart...or ones i have had dealings in. i'm hoping to volunteer for some animal ones when i can...and i have done kennel work and dog walking before.

also agree about the greyhounds! lovely beautiful dogs, one of my fav breeds and def a breed i would consider before anything else really. (tried to rehome one bfore but a relationship ending meant i couldn't get work done to have a suitable home). people have many misconceptions with them too

Different people will have different preferences. It doesn`t bother me what others do. I'll make the decisions which suit my own conscience and interests.
There is a tv advert for a dog charity (I think it is DogsTrust.) Now that might be worth supporting because they seem to work miracles.
In some of their `sponsor a dog` ads we are told "Your dog will write to you." Now that's a clever trick!

That's how I see it too.
I sponsor 2 rooms each year at Centrepoint and donate by DD to 2 medical charities. All of these have had some personal affect on me or my family...so it seemed the most obvious choice to make.

As for animals, like Darthoob I'm a member of specific ones that I can be slightly more involved with. Again, it comes down to personal feelings and preferences.

Yes, it's a shame that PR is all even in charitable causes.

What astounded me was when my dog was diagnosed with lymphosarcoma. She had treatment at one of the top research and medical facilities and during her course of treatment we got chatting to members of the staff. Their findings were more advanced than on the human research side but nonetheless their findings would be suitable in treating humans.

None of their findings are used by the cancer research establishments.

It seems ridiculous that it's just cast aside. Frowner

just tell them - call me again and i will cancel my payments to you fabienne, dont take rubbish from them, you are being generous and they are probably ripping you off and pocketing the money - abroad !

Now that is just wrong, if there are findings out there, they should be used. Frowner

Our puppy died of a sarcoma Cosmo. We took him to a canine oncologist up in Newmarket... if anyone or anything could have saved the pup... this bloke would have done.

I agree.... I was so impressed with the facilities up there. But then we paid alot of money for him to be looked at up there, and also they can be more experimental when treating animals.

For treatments to then be used on humans there are years of clinical trials to be done.

I thought I had replied to your pm then realised I hadn't Red Face sorry hun

as for your question here I would say this. Both medical research and child protection are funded by my taxes in this country - animal protection is not.
If you were to add what money is given to both of these causes by the taxpayer then it would come to a lot more than 3 quid.

Veggie Valentine how you doing ??

i understand what you are saying about medical research but they must need more before before they are on TV asking for donations ?
I am a pet lover, and dogs preferbly, but cats can be fun too - because animals ARE lovable - if they are loved.

100,000 strays were picked up last year.Veggie thats a lot .I thought to own a dog it the owner had to be licenced ? I often wonder where the money goes - and where the animals end up ?

I wont go Medical - I have seen some people in need of assistance - not druggies - but Cardiac folks and cancer folks and they get the help the Hospital CAN give.

The Govt can and should be doing a heck of a lot more Veggie.

Yep. I've had a proper falling out with the twats at Oxfam. I'd never donate to them anymore. Constantly wasting money sending crap through the post and it's almost impossible to get off their mailing list.

I agree with you wonder.
I give each month and whenever I have something spare, to the P.D.S.A
They saved the life of my dobermann many years ago and I will be forever grateful fot the 13 years I had with him thanks to the P.D.S.A.
My money will always go to them first.

Croc, I sincerly hope with all my heart (the new one )that you never see someone dying of it - its very draining, disturbing, soul destroying and the fact we are helpless adds to the grief.
