Frank Sinatra announced his retirement in 1971 - but then went on to do "farewell tours" for the next 2 decades.
Joan Sutherland, the opera singer, timed it just right I thought.
Her final performance was at Covent Garden in 1990. Not a 'special' concert, but during a gala performance of Die Fledermaus with Luciano Pavarotti and Marylin Horne.
Her last song was Home Sweet Home.
In recent months we have seen long-established singers make guest appearances on programmes such a Strictly Come Dancing. Many viewers said they were embarrassed by people who talked their way through songs, and who should have retired some time ago.

I like it when singers retire at their peak.
Can you think of any who should have called it a day sooner?

I paid good money to be at their farewell concert only for them to announce a tour a year later.
I could see why that would grate on your norks a tad, I'd have asked for my blimmin money back! Cheeky feckers!

At least the lead singer has got rid of that long ponytail.

I really wanna see Chas n Dave in concert (random I know, but still kinda relevant? I need more tea )
