Am I missing sumat?

Sorry to start another MJ thread, but if I see 'have some respect' one more time, I might have to peel my face off (not as a tribute).

Some people didn't like him. A fact not changed by him snuffing it. Get over it.

you are not missing anything, you are making your views very clear. other people, with opposite views to you are doing the same.
i am only responding to some comments you have made to my posts, in 'closed' tt thread.
'i might peel my face off/not a tribute' - refering to the fm who made the original statement, 'i'll even set my hair alight as a tribute' and my subsequent response "are you racist?" - was a direct question to this remark. reason being, i read it as mocking 'frizzy hair' i.e. black person afro! the fm found it hilarious that mj's hair caught alight... it says more about the poster than me.
i asked you 'why' about another comment - let's just say 'i gotcha'. i am a generous person, i allowed 'the win' - afterall i selected 'the example' out of all i could have chosen. i could have said so much more.. depending on 'which side it hangs' determines the response. my last 'insertion' was, and am guilty of not refering to the 'meanings' and rather start dialogue, i gave an account of a true story. it seemed apt a.p.t as lisa would say.
both topics are closed both seem to play out in some weird groundhog day.. sighs again..

Let me see how I can explain this to you better!
Hair is like dead flammable, when I was 6 my hair was set alight by me and some friends trying to light a bonfire.... I am very very white and redheaded.

I wasn't aware that black peoples hair was infinitely more flammable than my red hair.

You inferred I was a racist, even when you saw the news stories about the Pepsi ad's.

Bring it baby!

you really are something, i am being polite - i was explaining to trev to her confused smiley and subsequent laugh. as i am a respectful person, might be an idea for you to make note of my explanation. you could try understanding your comment was provocative, having not remembered (or been researching mj) the 'pepsi' accident.

Huh?

My intentions were to put a stop to the endless 'respect Michael Jackson' posts.

How you feel about that is entirely your affair.

From one FM? Who really cares what a handful of overzealous idiots post? Or even one nutter? Did you honestly think that by posting an entire thread you would change her mind about MJ, Jordan, or Peter Andre?

My point is that there are others on the forum who thought the man was worthy of a bit of tribute, more so IMO, than a reality programme contestant who contributed nothing in the world of art.

You don't like him, fair enough, but why disrespect those who do?

Ok, last time.

It

just

one

FM.

I'm not trying to change anyone's mind either.

I cant believe that people are arguing over the merits of MJ. Everyone respect or don't respect, it is up to each individual person. May I point out that there is a FM on here who lost her mum today and I only hope that everyone of you have gone to her thread to give your condolances to her, now that would be a respectful thing to do.

I have posted in the thread about Jen's mother.

I will, however, continue to defend myself against people who can't read/pretend to know what my intentions are.

I just can't be bothered anymore. I happen to feel that the OP was disrespectful to those who have respect to Michael Jackson's contibution to music *shrugs* So, shoot me.

I have too many other things going on in my life to obsess with respect/disrespect on a BB forum. It's easy enough to ignore threads that you have no interest in. Frankly, I have lost interest in this one.

I'm not saying you shouldn't defend yourself but to be honest sometimes you just have to say to hell with it and walk away. I have no feeling about MJ either way and I don't think you were trying to disrespect anyone, but what's the point of letting this carry on, I really don't think it will be resolved.
Mentalist
I was sad at MJ's passing because he was very much a part of my childhood with his songs and I used to adore him, but over the years I lost a lot of respect for him for various reasons, but I would not dream of coming on here and demanding others respect or dis-respect him just coz of my opinion.. There is a saying on the lines of: "you can command respect but you can not demand respect"

Gawd Skull

Personally, I don't think any of Suzi's posts were necessary. Had she actually read my post and taken it at face value rather than assuming I meant summat else, there would be no discussion.

Anyway, I have to go get ready to earn a crust now, so I'll leave you all to disapprove of me in peace Wave

Suzi, I assumed that this thread had been started out of frustration at Choccy/Amy/CFL spamming the forum with 'You must respect Michael Jackson' posts. I don't think anyone is belittling people who are saddened by his death, but quite a few people are getting fairly fed up with Choccy forcing her opinions on everyone yet again. The only thing she hasn't said so far is LEAVE HIM ALONE!!!!!!

I have to agree with you Growlybear, when i came on line yesterday i counted 11 (ELEVEN) threads on the one page all about Michael Jackson. THREE were started by the same person! I wasn't a fan but i liked one or two of his song's..... YEARS AGO.
One of the post's actually demanded that we respect the man. Respect is earned, not demanded and i lost respect for him a long time ago. I am allowed my opinion of him, just as a fan is allowed their's. I just found it pathetic that so many threads were on the forum ... IN MY OPINION. Big Grin

I've missed posts that apparently said "you must respect Michael Jackson" I've taken part in some MJ threads because for many years his music has been an enjoyable part of my life, and in those threads have been like minded people. I've not responded to those that feel differently.

As for some thinking there are too many MJ threads, I didn't know there has to be a limit on certain subjects, whatever the subject is. Not everyone is on the Forum at the same time. And this Forum is not just about BB

Aww, Yellow, like I said before, I love your posts, you are always fair and sincere. Always makes me happy. So the aww is just for being happy to see you again.

I will admit that when the same person starts loads of threads it can become pretty boring. But, onwards and upwards, some liked MJ, some did not, that is the way it goes. This tread was started tho since a LOT of peeps demanded respect for the man and some did not feel like being told what to do and did not want to at all. Me included. I liked his old stuff but he has not done anything since 95 music wise.

But I think it is all settled now and people will go on, some are sorry for his passing, others not so much.

I've had the jokes all weekend. People/family members texting me even though they know I was a HUGE fan. THAT is disrespectful. I don't find one of them funny. I'm not demanding anyone respects him themselves but I am demanding they respect my right to feel sad and not want to read crass jokes. The "get over it" "god he was only a singer" "it's not like you knew him" comments. AGAIN disrespectful to me and I feel it's the same on a forum. If someone is telling you how sad it makes them feel then nobody should go into a thread posting jokes and telling them to get over it etc. There is a time and a place.

Debbie Rowe. She gave up parental rights but regained some a few years ago. Hopefully she'll get the kids back and raise them away from the media
