I'm naturally averse to sentimentalism but I think I was damaged beyond repair by the Madeleine story and the forum reactions throughout. I remain, to this day, absolutely astonished by that. It used to make me feel variously sick and amused. Then came the Jade threads. Poor MJ didn't stand a chance as I was highly sensitised by then.

Go back to your private forum and point and laugh at me and others who feel strongly about respect given to those who deserve respect for what they have contributed. I'm not really bothered.

Respect given to those who deserve respect? Fine, if you think they do, also fine is some dont think they do. That is the crux of the matter is it not?

I think it goes beyond that though. Why ridicule those who think MJ deserve respect? Whatever you think about me or my posts, I have always TRIED (sometimes failed) to treat others with dignity and respect. There are numerous threads that I don't go into because I'm simply not interested. I don't go in to find the ONE post that tells me I MUST support so and so, or I MUST respect so and so.

The crux of the matter is, whether or not you like Michael Jackson or thought he was a total prat, there are many others who thought he was worthy of respect. Why belittle those people?

Your opening post, Trev. You took a comment that one poster made about how everyone should respect MJ and ran with it. I felt that you were belittling anyone who was sad at his demise.

"Get over it" were your words, not mine.

Ohhhhhh, I am so not belittling anyone at all for their feelings, a lot of people really adored the man. I am a David Bowie fan myself and I would be really upset if he passed. But I really havent seen anyone disrepect anyones feelings here, they have just said they did not like him and should not feel compelled to give him respect. Perhaps I havent been around much but at least in this tread, I havent seen it so far.

Dont worry what people are saying, everyone is entitled to feel what they feel. I just did not like him in the later years and am not upset about this at all.

Get over the fact that I don't respect Micheal Jackson.

That didn't belittle anyone.

And it wasn't just ONE poster. It was all over the forum this morning and all day yesterday.

So what you 'felt' was wrong.
The Secretary
Suzi, I assumed that this thread had been started out of frustration at Choccy/Amy/CFL spamming the forum with 'You must respect Michael Jackson' posts. I don't think anyone is belittling people who are saddened by his death, but quite a few people are getting fairly fed up with Choccy forcing her opinions on everyone yet again. The only thing she hasn't said so far is LEAVE HIM ALONE!!!!!!

i am only responding to some comments you have made to my posts, in 'closed' tt thread.
'i might peel my face off/not a tribute' - refering to the fm who made the original statement, 'i'll even set my hair alight as a tribute' and my subsequent response "are you racist?" - was a direct question to this remark. reason being, i read it as mocking 'frizzy hair' i.e. black person afro! the fm found it hilarious that mj's hair caught alight... it says more about the poster than me.
i asked you 'why' about another comment - let's just say 'i gotcha'. i am a generous person, i allowed 'the win' - afterall i selected 'the example' out of all i could have chosen. i could have said so much more.. depending on 'which side it hangs' determines the response. my last 'insertion' was, and am guilty of not refering to the 'meanings' and rather than start dialogue, i gave an account of a true story. it seemed apt a.p.t as lisa would say.
both topics are closed both seem to play out in some weird groundhog day.. sighs again..

Ok peeps, shall we stop it??

On one hand we have people that really liked MJ and are sad at his passing. They are quite entitled to their grief.

On the ohter hand there are people that could not care less and that is up to them. ( Me being one of them)

Neither one can tell the other how to feel.

Can we agree to dissagree?

However, this was quite a good tread.

And get on to the far more important matter of BB and Freddie massaging Charlie?

How you feel about that is entirely your affair.

From one FM? Who really cares what a handful of overzealous idiots post? Or even one nutter? Did you honestly think that by posting an entire thread you would change her mind about MJ, Jordan, or Peter Andre?

My point is that there are others on the forum who thought the man was worthy of a bit of tribute, more so IMO, than a reality programme contestant who contributed nothing in the world of art.

You don't like him, fair enough, but why disrespect those who do?
