A thread for all things useless
is there any real reason for wasps to exist? I think I could live with the "garden pests" that they kill off rather than them

Ive often wondered what the point of wasps is they seem totally pointless.
I'm going to think of a serious one now, I promise!
From Wiki: Wasps can effectively transport pollen and therefore contribute for the pollination of several plant species, being potential or even efficient pollinators [2].
^^^^ I don't think that's a good enough reason for keeping them, the bees and other insects can cope with the pollenation.

I'm guessing my recent request will be ignored then?
Moving on.........BUTTERFLIES!
Wasps are here to amuse me, I love it on a hot sunny day (a what???) when you see people doing the 'arrgh there's a wasp next to me' dance.
I once witnessed my sister throw her purse at one as she was running away.

We are keeping the flutterbies, Ducky.
They are pretty and gentle and will pollenate the flowers when we have exterminated the wasps.

so - do we finally have something we all agree on to go in the gagajoy Room 101?

My sister would agree with the point you make. I once had a wasp land on my bum....and she still laughs everytime she thinks of the wiggly bum dance I did.

My husband (a six footer and built like a tank) does that - accompanied by loud whooping noises. It's soooooo embarrassing.

I'm starting to think wasps aren't so useless at all......even though I do the dance myself I can understand the joy it brings to others.

Noooooo butterflies are not pointless, they are beautiful! Where would we be without butterflies? What would kittens chase? What would we adorn our summer dress prints with? what would make a good logo for all things picnicy, what other 'safe option' would woman have tattooed on their shoulder and back? and imagine not growing up without reading the hungry caterpillar Munch munch munch. Noooo they are not pointless.

You've Been Framed has missed the boat here! They could have had a whole section on this!
I'm gonna spend the rest of my holiday loitering around lollypops and bins filming people.
