I quoted all three names as I know some regions call the main meal of the day different to others

Where i am it is usually dinner or lunch at mid dayish and then Tea in the evening and supper is something we dont have but others maybe have just before bed

I live in a Farming area and the men often have early starts so they have a pack up with them - an early Tea around 4ish and then supper of cheese , pickles etc around 8-9pm before an early night to bed

What are you having today ?

Does anyone bake their own bread ?

Does anyone make their own soups ?

Does anyone use a slow cooker / croc pot ?

I occassionally make soup - never make bread - and use and love my slow cooker

today for tea  I am  doing   Rogan Josh curry with rice and nairn bread

I call the midday meal lunch and then the evening meal dinner which we usually have between 6-8pm, although we do sometimes call it tea, especially if we have it earlier and we're having something like egg and chips. We generally only have supper if we've had an earlier dinner and it's usually just something like cheese and biscuits.

I frequently make my own soup and bread and also use and love my slow cooker.

I've had a Lancashire Hotpot on a low oven since 11am which will be ready to serve when OH gets in from work at around 7pm tonight.

asked as I was over on Martin Lewis money expert site earlier and the threads on there regarding bread making , slow cooking etc are huge - wondered how many here did the same
That's Ok Mrs H... it is an interesting thread.  I made my own bread continuously for about 2 years when someone gave me a bread maker...... but then the novelty finally wore off, and now I just do it for high days and holidays. Regards the slow cooker, we bought one when they first came fashionable, and I did use it a few times when I was working, but again the novelty wore off (easily bored me),  and now I am retired.........

We call it either tea or dinner and lunch and dinner.

I do make my own soups - had some leftover Broc and stilton for lunch.  I also make my own bread - not in a breadmaker, but with flour and yeast and all that.  My favourite is onion and cheese bread that I make when I do a vegetable soup.

Tonight we are having meatloaf - which I make with beef mince and sausage meat.  I make a loaf for dinner and meatballs for tomorrow's dinner.

Tonight we're having sirloin steak with crispy potato slices, mushrooms, sweetcorn and fried tomato.

I have a breadmaker and that's the closest I've gotten to making my own bread.

I make soup about twice a week. Tattie is my fave but I do french onion, tomato and pepper, lentil, broth, pea and ham or a mixture of them

I love my slow cooker. Stews, curries, soups. I need more recipes for it though.

I don't have a bread maker or a slow cooker - but I'd love a slow cooker and we've put one on our Christmas wishlist for the family to see! I make soup because I hate waste - leftovers are ingredients for the next meal - and I still have a very ancient pressure cooker.

Tonight we're having cottage pie with a cheese topping, followed by baked apples with honey and mincemeat.

Queenie - how do you make Lancashire hotpot?
I use about 500g of diced lamb coated in seasoned flour, a large onion (sliced), 2 or 3 large carrots cut into large chunks, 3 or 4 large potatoes thinly sliced, approx 1/2 pint of lamb stock. Seasoning to taste - I use 1/2 tsp rosemary, 1/2 tsp thyme, salt, black pepper. Traditional recipes also include lamb's kidneys but I don't like it so just leave it out.
Brown the lamb and onions, (and kidneys if using). Once browned add to a casserole dish with the carrots and top with the sliced spuds. Pour over the stock, cover with a lid and bake in a low oven (electric - 140-150) for 6 -8 hours. Remove the lid for the last hour, and some people dot butter on the top layer of potatoes at this stage too. I find like stew it always tastes better if you eat it the next day.

I'm having home made vegetable soup tonight actually. I do make my own bread because I miss German sour dough bread and it's too expensive to order online. I also have a cheat's recipe for minestrone which is a tin of each of: spaghetti hoops, tomato, baked beans, kidney beans and a stockcube. I used to make it for the kids when they were young and I didn't have much time and it's lovely.

there are some lovely meal ideas and recipes coming in - thank you

QOTHT  - could you not do the hot pot in the slow cooker - or do you need the potato slices to crisp - just wondered when you mentioned leaving it to eat the next day which i agree with for several things like stew-curry and chilli - they taste so much better

I have an unopened bread maker still in its box - never had the want or inclination but - might just relent and give one or two of the bread ideas ago

I tried it in the slow cooker but it didn't really work as well because you do need the potatoes to crisp up really. I suppose you could cook it first and then transfer it to a casserol dish and place fresh spuds on the top layer to crisp up in the oven. I might try it that way next time. I always cook stews in the slow cooker and then transfer them to the hob for the final stages, that way you get to control the thickness of the gravy and add dumplings etc.

I do make my own soup, carrot and ginger is my current favourite, really good for keeping colds away and its the perfect student cheap way of cooking.
I can make my own bread but don't tend to do it, one because in this freezing house it would never rise and two because i would eat it all.
Tonight I will be eating tuna potato salad I think
