Hi Kaffy  I don't blame you for chopping and changing if THIS is how they treat folk!  Thing is, I have been fine with direct line for 10 years, and as I said, it was only about 33 or so a month in 2012 and about 39 last year, (including breakdown cover and the instalment plan,) and yet this year they would not BUDGE from the 55 to 60 pound region, and gave no reason whatsoever for the massive leap from, ÂĢ39 to ÂĢ60!

Hi Saz  British GAS are total gits.  They did the same to us!  Bumped our monthly amount up without telling us.  They are always on watchdog and the CEO ALWAYS makes up bullshit excuses for their AWFUL behaviour!

Funnily enough, I'm with Direct Line at the moment for the car and the house - they've been cheapest for the past couple of years, but I did move away from them for a few years when they got expensive and said they couldn't compete.

I'm a real insurance/bills/credit card tart me - I swap to the cheapest gas and electric every time an agreement's up, and I've a credit card balance that i'm moving between interest free deals rather than take money out the bank to pay it all off, and I used to remortgage quite regularly before the credit crunch when they'd give you free legal work and surveys for moving your mortgage - sadly those days are gone, so the mortgage is staying where it is for now.    The only thing I refuse to move is the Virgin Media phone, telly and broadband package.   Somethings are too important to tinker with.

Yeah, they reckoned they'd sent me a letter telling me about the changes... TELLING mind, not asking! They hadn't sent a letter At least they changed it back without any fuss I suppose, but I did keep a closer eye on it after that. I pay quarterly now - tell me what I've used, and I'll give you the money, instead of guessing how much I'm going to use and sneaking money out of my account

Frustrating isn't it?   It's not about you though - it's more about what claims they've had and how they're performing I reckon.   If they've had lots of claims in the past year relating to the area you live or the car you drive - the premium on that goes up, even if you're an exemplary driver.  I used to drive an XR3 - it was boy racer car so claims were high.. but you could always get lower ones because companies would price themselves out the market for a couple of years, then that stats would change and they'd be able to bring the price down again for a year or so ... and so it goes on.
