They were playing a game. taking it in turns to add a line to a story they were making up.
The whole thing was invention and fantasy.
Dave included a line about a woman with one eye and one arm.
Later he was stricken, nay riddled to his extremities with guilt.
Dave thought he might have offended Steve.
Steve assured him (several times) that he had not offended him.
My own opinion (for what little it is worth) is that Dave milked it for all it was worth.
Played up the self pity (even brought his wife and family into it.) He turned to anyone who would listen. I think he loved the attention and tried to keep the issue running.
On the other hand I may be doing him an injustice.

Thanks Brisket.  Seems like we have another Shebhaz in the making with Rave Dave.  It'll end in tears.

Shahbaz brought out conflicting feelings in me - he made me want to either shake him until his teeth rattled, or sit him down and get him a cup of tea.

No such contradictions with Dave, I'm afraid.

I think he knows what he's doing. Don't like him so far. Things might change.

I have to say though until he opened his mouth for one split second I thought it was Emtybelly!
