A close friend lost her husband (to cancer) 2 mths ago, and next Saturday is her birthday. I have bought her a card which say's thinking of you, and inside says sending special wishes. Obviously I can't be saying have a great day! Any ideas?

Can't think of much. If you are going to be with her on the day at some point,
All my love from ms golightly looking forward to seeing you later, or chatting to you later etc. The words printed on the card you have chosen seem very appropriate.

You being there for her is the right thing. You could write something like 'I'm always here when you need me, not just today but everyday'

I like this bit Suzi Q
Yes that's lovely Suzi! In my experience you just appreciate being thought of - the exact words don't always matter. You sounds like a good caring friend Ms G
I think Suzi's idea is lovely
I just want to acknowledge that she doesn't really feel like celebrating, and that this is the first 'milestone' she has to face without him. But still saying 'I know it's your birthday'! Some nice ideas here, thanks again x
I usually put 'thinking of you on your birthday...' when someone has had a bereavement.
