As an animal lover I truly admire the work that you and others do as I know it must be very painful sometimes. My niece is a veterinarian assistant so I know what she and others like you have to deal with at times.
I gave up paid work a few years ago and am now involved voluntarily in animal rescue work. Have several rescue cats that now have a happy life with us.
Many heartbreaking situations but now and again there's so much pleasure when a loving home is found for those that need one, all animals deserve that.
