It was started a few weeks after we all went over to this forum (from C4 forum). Many arguments were being carried on from the old forum and were getting quite nasty and many FM's felt that there should be a place where you could take the arguments to leave the main forum for happier discussions. The lovely people at GaGaJoyJoy agreed and provided the Troll Tank, and many of the more argumentative threads from the main forum do end up there.

I usually use the Troll Tank when a normal thread goes horribly awry, beyond being able to just delete one or two bad posts. Sometimes the rest of the content is still useful/interesting/ok and I hate to just delete it.

Usually when an entire thread goes missing completely, it's because it either started out bad or was entirely bad throughout. When a thread reaches 20+ pages, it's a waste of time to try to selectively go through and delete posts.

Also, when arguing or bantering sarcastically, it's one thing to use friendly fire and teasing. It's another when it turns to personal assaults and name-calling. That's when a Troll Tank argument will disappear entirely.

I hope that clarifies a bit.
