Happy to contribute to the Phil Collins hate thread!

He's so crap.  Why's he 'so crap'?

Crap flexed suits with the sleeves rolled up usually with jeans.  That was a shite fashion in the 80s and looked even worse on pop's answer to Danny Devito. I know he was trying to do that LA cool thing like that "Miami Vice" bloke, but he looked a twat.

80s baldy guy with a crap 80s pony tail.  Growing a pony tail doesn't fool people into thinking you have hair, when you're a bald as a coot on top!  Sleazy git looked like a porn actor.

Crap references to his personal life and relationships in his songs.  What wife/girlfriend wouldn't leave someone who looked and sung like Phil?

Crap Motown pastiches.  White boy soul can be ok but when you just completely rip off your sources, why bother?  The originals were always better than his crappy ersatz versions.

Susudio, crap song, crap song title, crap duet with crap Phil Bailey, crap video.  Did I mention how crap that song was?

Crap Hypocrite (not crap at being a hypocrite - he was good at that!).  Sings a song about the homeless, jumps on that Band Aid bandwagon and then threatens to leave the country if Labour got in.  Those who remember the 80s remember that homelessness vastly increased during that time.

Crap crashing drums racket, crap use of synthesizers.

I'm not going to enter that other thread and rain on their parade. However if we are going to take the gloves off then I must manifest my complete and utter zero tolerance for James Taylor, Carol King, Neil Young, Bobby Zimmerman, Laughing Lenny, Ant n Dec, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, and all the other twatty yet meaningful songsmiths.

Writing that mini essay on Phil reminded me of my young days and Phil Collins/Genesis hatred.

Phil and Genesis were everything I despised about commercial pop music at the time.

Younger people who go on You Tube and spout on about the 80s being a time of classic pop are fools looking at a past that isn't theirs through rose tinted specs.  Music doesn't become good by virtue of being old.

Any reasonably minded person who lived through the 80s and had to endure the blanket radio airplay his crap songs received. Also ageing DJs like DLT prattling on about some rubbish promo video with film excerpts cross-marketed to promote the latest Hollywood cheesy romcom, as if they were more important than the music will realise just how nauseating and passionless Phil and Genesis were.

In my opinion, of course!

!

I agree but they're looking at the wrong 80's music. It was definitely the best era for me. So many amazing bands (Human League, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Jam etc) and brilliant albums. The 90's was like a hangover that was never cured and the 00's well God help us all

Evil on two levels!
1: It has the same intro as 1999 by prince (so you think a decent song is coming on)!!

2: It has Fil Collins innit, innit!!

Also that one that sounds like the Supremes are about to play

I just love you nutters. This thread has made me roar ;D
Carnelian - grade A rant my friend. Not as great as my all time favourite rant which is Alan Davies going mad about Shawcross breaking Ramsays leg - available on youtube btw - but still one I'll add to the collection.
You did however forget to mention that he dumped his wife by fax!!

I'd like to chuck James Blunt on the pyre of hatred if there's room. He's only little so should burn quick!

Musically yes! Unless we put it down to irony.
However I love his interviews. Without doubt he is one of the wittiest musicians ever. I just heard him give that Graham Norton one the runaround.

I'm the same, Joe.

Not the same as the Blunt. The same as the Garage.

I love seeing him interviewed, or on panel shows etc.
