Phone them, I've had a mobile since 1992 and have only ever sent 1 text in all those years. I currently have 3 Blackberry's and they are only set to send, receive calls, I just can't be asked. 
Like Gab says.... depends on the time and how long stuff would take to say 
Text... you can control the duration of the conversaton, and don't have to stop what you are doing... you do it at your own convenience... and the other person can respond at theirs

Text..don't like talking on the phones much.
If it's gonna be too much to put in a text, I prefer to phone rather than text

Stupidest thing is I've just bought an MP3 player, didn't realise the blackberry pearl thingy has an MP3 player built in, And feck knows what the blue & shiney black blackberry does coz I couldn't be bothered to read the instructions.
