I had a life that was before I became unwell and my husband passed away I always say it is my lifeline because  it is true I would be very lonely and lost without it, the forum and my friends on here mean everything to me

me too, I was divorced and doing my own thing and then decided to help my mum after my dad died. Going from a fairly hectic social life to pretty much none was a bit of a shock to my system. I love my interweb friends 

I used to annoy my family, instead of you lot!

Oh, and I watched far more telly.

I actually feel privileged that I remember a world without the internet, mobile phones, CDs, DVDs etc.....we actually managed to cope very well without them, looking back


The young ones today will never know what it's like not to be dependant on technology.

I did more reading, more crosswords, more piano playing, more radio, more tv.......

I know what you mean Marg.   Although I did meet someone else after my husband died,and we have now lived together for 11 years now, knew each other for nearly 14.We are very happy and have a really good life. Then I had my heart attack, and got the heart failure + other medical probs. But, it has been the people that I have met on C4 and here that have kept me going, and seen me through my bad times. Before the interweb, I read a heck of  a lot more, and I did crosswords too Brisket, plus did more housework.

I used to do so much more than I do now...

I waste far too much time...

I almost wish it didn't exist...

I am so pleased that Facebook didn't exist in my school and teenage days!

I used to read a lot or go out more with friends to the pub and my house was tidier too 

I cant remember, seems i have had this all my life!  I read more books and had a social life and yes my house was cleaner  I wouldnt have liked facebook when i was younger, was much nicer seeing my friends face to face

I used to have to buy my gentlemen's "art magazines"  !!

It's so true about kids and technology, my internet was down the other day and my daughter was having a mild heart attack. she actually said what am i mean't to do till bedtime  i can remember asking to use the landline as a teenager to call my mates and being told by dad to use my legs and knock on their door instead

LOL Aims. My brother used to say to the kids - you've seen them all bloody day at school. What do you want to phone them for!

That's what i say now Pam  my daughter is on the laptop, texting and has her ipod in her lug holes and then ask's if she can use the landline, what else can she have left to say to her mates that she's been with all day

she was mean't to be in at 10.30 and asked for it to be changed to 11 and she's still not back, i will use technology and try her mobile

Cant remember now. But i know modern technology has made us all  more impatient. How many of you get annoyed when we get a Microsoft download and have to wait for it to install,and you click on a link and it takes ages?I reckon we all now expect stuff to be instantanious else we get mad, i know i do.

I'm prepared to give it a certain length of time due to others might be doing the same thing . And if it's out of that time, then I get annoyed

Before the internet was invented I used to sit and dream about this thing where you could chat to people on a computer without even being in the same room as them and you could discuss stuff and argue about pointless stuff and then, well, the internet happened

A good example is- something goes wrong with your Sky box- Ring up-- press 1 for **** etc>> press 2 for ***** etc... thenmore of the same for 10-15 5mins, then you get cut off. or you get through to someone who is foreign and you cant understand a freakin word they are saying

Especially compared the 90's and the days of dial up's

Before day's of t'internet I was working much longer hours as often it wasn't possible to work from home (no e-mail). This also led to a lot more after work socialising (and drinking). Research meant going to the library, my home and mobile phone bills were ridiculous, I'd have a busy household with guests that were welcomed and ignoring the door to guests who weren't. I'd be out all hours sometimes doing things I shouldn't have been doing and getting into situations that were not within the realms of acceptable behaviour. These days I mostly use the net for my course, work, shopping, food shopping, and keeping in touch with people that are not nearby. So not a lot then

Oops--- used to be "you are grounded for a week" A tad advantageous nowadays.

And therein lies the problem. These days if you argue with someone you have to travel to smack them in the gob. Unless you take your laptop to the pub of course.
