Abu Ben Adam , awoke one night from a deep dream peace,

and within the candlelight in room,

some thing... withering doom..(thats probs not quite right)

saw an angel writing in a book of gold.

to the presence in the room he said' what writest thou?'

the presence raised his head

with a look of all sweet accord,

answered, the names of those who love the lord.

I have no idea why I have had this stuck in my head for at least  20 years, I think it's from the Rubyat of Omar Kayham, or possible he lesser known  sibling Victor...

The lyrics to hundreds - if not thousands - of songs.

Joseph And The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat start to finish - I've been in it 14 times.

The catalogue number of every item in my Motorhead collection.

Driver number, NHS number, Nat. Ins. number, bank card number, my first year of secondary school class register, and the list goes on.

It scares me how easily I can retain strings of numbers and a mine of useless information.....

Can I suggest you put your powers of recollection to good use by going onto quiz programmes and winning pots of cash?

I too know loads of song lyrics, but I could not say that I can sing them word perfect each time.

You have a gift sir.

.....you would not tell, with such high zest......The Old Lie......It is a fine and fitting thing to die for ones country.

We studied it too, along with two war poems called 'The Horses'. One was by Ted Hughes, the other may have been by Wilfred Owen - I'll look it up - and finally the book by Erich Maria Remarque - All quiet on the Western Front.

Edit: The second 'The Horses' was by Edwin Muir. It read to me at the time like post Neuclear War - I have just read it again and it STILL feels like post nuclear, rather than conventional, war.

hmmmm

Mein Hut, der hat drei Ecken

Drei Ecken hat mein Hut

und hatt er nicht drei Ecken

so war's auch nicht mein hut

My hat, it has three corners,
Three corners has my hat,
And had it not three corners,
It would not be my hat.

Learnt that in Austria with a bunch of kids that were taught English using Play away Brian Cant videos

also the lines to the BBC Colin Firth/Jennifer Ehle Pride and Prejudice programme and North and South with Richard Armitage - largely due to the amount of times I've watched both

It's a well known and beloved British character given the Tim Burton treatment.

There is a prize for who can guess who the character is.
