I probably shouldn't post this in here as it's not really a discussion but thought as it is music related... I was listening to the radio earlier and a discussion popped up about the "savior of british music".

I couldn't believe what I was hearing... names like Jessie J, Dappy and bloody Adele were being thrown in there. Savior of british music? My f*cking arse

No probs MrMincePie, they're all bloody shit!  They no doubt shift units but they're still shit.  And even you think they're not shit, the most anyone can say about them is they're 'ok' in that non-committal kind of way.  For example, I quite like Coldplay, but even though I quite like their song-writing, I could never get excited about a band like that.  OK, I'm quite old but my inner 14 year old tells me that they, Dappy, Adel and Jessie J etc just don't cut it!

I kind of feel sorry for today's youth music-wise.  They really don't have anything they can call their own.  Rap and R&B has been kicking around for several decades and both are so clichÃĐd in music and image.  Then you have the indie lite that is so much more conservative than the indie music of the 80s and 90s.  Then you have the terminally dull singer song writer or reality TV promoted artist who has no artistic direction or grounding.  Technical development of music came to stand still over a decade ago so there's no sudden change in direction on the cards, like there was before when studios incorporated new studio techniques and experimentation then synthesisers and then sampling.
