Such a great songwriter.

Fantastic album, but preferred Soul Mining and loved the experimentation of Burning Blue Soul.  Burning Blue Soul, genius in places wearisome in others but never ordinary.

I have to say Infected and Soul Mining were played to death when I first got them and I have a great deal of trouble picking between them. I came to Burning Blue Soul later as I started to pick through the back catalogue of 4AD (one of my favourite labels for many years).

I found that as the albums progressed I liked them less than the aforementioned. I still play Mind Bomb, Dusk and Hanky Panky but much less than Infected and Soul Mining. Would love the videos to be released on something other than VHS !!

P.S. I have picked up a couple of his recent soundtracks Tony and Moonbug.

I think I first heard Burning Blue Soul after Soul Mining and Infected.  I tend to agree.  Matt Johnson definitely deteriorated over the years.  I did find Dusk (far more personal and Matt Johnsonish than the big politics of "Mind Bomb").  I tend to think of Mind Bomb like I tend to think of Simple Minds' "Street Fighting Years". Politically worthy but all a bit dull and overblown.

Haven't heard of Hanky Panky.  It probably goes without saying that Soul Mining and Infected are the best of the bunch.  IMO, Burning Blue Soul  comes really close with a mix of experimentation that has some really great bits among some rather poor bits.  The great bits compensate for the dull bits.
