Although I have been aware of Bowie since the late 70's I have to confess as to not being a fan. Never bought any of his material and considered him a singles artist (stupidly coming to that conclusion having not really listened to his albums ).

I always liked Ashes to Ashes as a song.

But over the last few years I have taken more of an interest in his work and career. There have been some very interesting documentaries on him and I have a much broader knowledge of Bowie compared to even a few years ago.

Only this year I started to buy the set of three compilation albums realising that he has released some excellent singles (why no 'laughing gnome' on the albums?).

So for me it's a start and I may soon make my way into the albums proper.

Interestingly I have far more Eno albums. I am also a big fan of Gary Numan who I guess would site Bowie as an influence if only for the constant persona changes (see what I did there).

By all means start a thread, although my contribution may not be great as I am but a mere novice when it comes to the work of David Robert Jones.

I "inherited" his studio albums from Hunky Dory through Station to Station as a pre-teen when my elder brother headed to uni - but while they interested me they didn't have the same impact upon me as other music did (some of the ska above, for instance) and somehow Scary Monsters has always escaped me - even though Ashes to Ashes and Fashion were great single releases.
