I've only used them a couple of times and both times were because I only had one or two items and the assistant guided me to them and showed me what to do.
I would be too embarrassed to sashay up to them myself as if I knew what I was doing.

The Supermarkets that have them also have security guys who constantly scan those security monitors. I always think they are watching especially the self-service tills

Not my Tesco Express. I've saved a fortune.

If you mean robbing, can't agree with that. Are you that hard up that you can't afford to pay?

Robbing is definitely wrong though.

I like the self-service stuff even if they're the instruments of the devil. I use them if I have some really embarrassing items to buy and don't want the checkout person to see. Such as a multipack of large fresh cream chocolate eclairs.
I once bought a copy of Attitude at a manned till and the woman checkout operator gave me a look of quickly suppressed shock. It was quite funny. Dunno what the issue was: ohmigod a real-life gay person, or ohmigod why are all the best-looking men gay?

I love them, have to steer my dad away from them on the big shop though, hes convinced he'll make me do it one day. Ours always have 2 members of staff around them as well so not really causing unemployment
I don't use them. If I'm spending money in someone's shop, the least they can do is serve me.

do u put the bag on and then click it before scanning or 'start'?! ive always just scanned immediately...quote:Originally posted by SazBomb:
M&S ones have a 'using own bag' option now, cos it detects something on the scales and doesn't know what it is. Thats good I think Tesco ones dont seem to be that sensitive
I like proper people serving me when shopping.
m&s ones are mostly unmanned, if they are manned they r usually dealing with someone else... so shoplifting can easily happen. along with the carrier bags...
tesco doesnt scan single packets of crisps as they are so light, so they always require the attendant.
sainsburies ones work faster than the other two! it scans quickly and payment is mega fast regardless if its cash or card. plus the loading bay is HUGE! if something falls off the m&s one u gotta wait for an attendant to key in blah blah.
boots - slowwwwwwwwwww. BETTER of going to the counter. the woman even talks slow on the damn thing!
