Diving star Tom Daley said he "couldn't be happier" after revealing he is gay.

The Olympic medallist posted a video on YouTube in which he spoke for the first time about a relationship he has started with another man.

"I've never really had a serious relationship to talk about," he said.

"Now I kind of feel ready to talk about my relationships.

"Come spring this year, my life changed massively when I met someone and it made me feel so happy, so safe and everything just feels great. And that someone is a guy."

I don't think he's made a big deal out of it, people are interested in him, he was the poster boy for 2012. The public has watched him grow up and having a first love is just another rite of passage he's decided to share, like doing and passing his A levels. The media would have been interested regardless, so good for him for just stating a fact that his first relationship is with a bloke

I agree suzy, he's just happy and wants to tell the world. We all do when we're in love.

Good luck to him and his new partner.

That's what really annoys me Soozy.  Some horrid little turd trying to make some easy money by selling a story to a rag about someones sexuality.  Why does his sexuality need to be a story in this day and age?  Probably to appease the terminally outraged. "strip him of his gold medal, he'll turn our children gay *rant rant rant*"

But its a hugely personal thing - and they may not be supported by their own family ... look at Claire Balding, her gran fell out with her.

Yes I read an interview with Claire - her gran called it "disgusting". Apparently they've made up now. Claire must be very forgiving, is all I'll say...

He says he's bisexual anyway, so my niece (who is in love with him) might not have to go through the sense of devastation and loss I felt when George Michael broke my heart and trampled all over my dreams.

My mate's daughter will also be holding on to a shred of hope.   As for George Michael...What a waste!!! I still have my fantasies involving the 'Last Christmas' video...

I totally get that! It was the jumper he wore, and the scene where he's smiling benignly wearing comedy antlers. My favourite George was in 'Edge of Heaven'. Leather jacket with tassles on the arms, tight black jeans and darker, less bouffant hair.
