A large swathe of central Britain has been warned to be ready for snow as a cold snap brings freezing temperatures in the lead-up to the New Year.
The Met office today upgraded its cold weather alert to Level 3 amber, the second highest, saying there was a 90% chance of severe cold, ice or snow in parts of England between this afternoon and New Year's Eve.
Temperatures could also drop as low as -10C (14F) in some places at the start of next week.

Been frosty overnight here and freezing now but bright and sunny and no snow.
Another lovely sunny but cold day. Managed to get out on the bikes again. Hope this weather lasts.
Well, we had some snow after all - The thinnest blanket EVER! Didn't last long though as it was soon sleeting, then raining and finally it was a cool sunny day.
Would it be fair to say it's a chilly night everywhere?

As I was saying above you can feel the drop in temperature and the graph shows Sheffield under the -8...!

No MrsH,it's just the initial difference in temperature to outside, he'll soon be putting the jumper (or similar) back on.
Today it is cold and frosty, but sunny - and I expect it to get a lot colder than -5....regardless of what that graphic says!

Very cold in Nottingham, snow has now turned to ice and the roads are terrible, the gritters haven't been and the buses aren't running on my road, they are only running on the main roads, which means two whole estates are cut off

The coldest and frostiness night so far. The sun is rising a bit though so another long walk is a strong possibility.
Sunny, frost all gone. Looks like my new boots won't be getting much of a try out when I go out later.
