Does anyone take them and do you think they help?

I don't normally think they do any good but I bought some for the first time today. I've been feeling pretty low and tired recently (although I suspect my eating habits are to blame for most of that) but I've just had a heavy cold and chest infection and still not right and was wondering if they would help

What Is Milk Thistle Used For?

Milk thistle is sometimes used as a natural treatment for liver problems. These liver problems include cirrhosis, jaundice, hepatitis, and gallbladder disorders.

Some claim milk thistle may also:

  • Provide heart benefits by lowering cholesterol levels
  • Help diabetes in people who have type 2 diabetes and cirrhosis
  • Reduce growth of cancer cells in breast, cervical, and prostate cancers

Does Milk Thistle Work?

Silymarin is the main active ingredient in milk thistle. Silymarin is both an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. It’s unclear what benefits, if any, this may have in the body.

Haha - oh good - I thought it was just me!!

No.... I buy them... take a couple... decide they aren't doing any good, or upsetting my stomach.... and then end up taking them back to the chemist with the unwanted medicines

It sounds like you are a little out of sorts.

Personally I used to take them up until I researched whether I benefit from them or not. I would appear that you can get everything you need from a well balanced diet. I used to drink orange juice by the carton until I read that your body can only absorb  so much vitamin C, the rest is expelled by the body, in some cases as BO !!  I stopped drinking too much and have a 250ml glass with breakfast.

It look to me like the big winner is Holland and Barratt.

Nah, nothing serious, I don't think. I just think I need to start taking better care of myself. Grabbing food 'on the go' at work isn't helping either

Sounds like you might just be generally 'run down'. If your eating hasn't been terribly good/healthy then you could be missing out on a variety of vital (and not so vital) nutrients. A good multivitamin can help in this area, but the best benefit from taking vitamins/suplements is obtained by regular consumption, not just by taking a few when you feel out of sorts.

I refuse to pay Holland and Barrat prices.

I get most of my stuff on line from Healthy Direct and some from Boots.
