Just one of my grandsons Arsenal bits of clobber.
I just can't go to the Emirates and not buy something for him

I really like Next stuff. There's some gorgeous things at the moment, especially for baby girls. I'm not so fussed about Mothercare, a lot of it's a bit old fashioned and the fabric always seems a bit cheaper to me. There are some pretty dresses in there though.

The only way I'd be allowed to put that on our baby would be over my husband's dead body.

He's more of a rugby fan but supports Liverpool FC. I have to say though that football gear of any description will only be going on my baby over my dead body.

they have some cute little things in all the big club shops now.
The only thing I don't really like on babies is all the pink for little girls.
There's just so much of it everywhere.
What's wrong with lavender or peach - anything but pink all the time

You can't buy much these days that isn't pink. I don't mind the really pale pinks but the bright bubblegum and cerise stuff is just so garish. When did somebody decided that all girls must love pink? I don't remember having much in pink whenI was a kid. It's just nasty. I blame Barbie.

You're right, it is that hoochie Barbie that's to blame
Most of the pink stuff is exactly that shade of pink.
My grandson has some little sleeveless vest tops (in white not pink btw) with cute tiny animals on them and my son and DIL call them his YMCA wear

Need more clues as to the kind of things you like..I LOVE baby shopping, but tend to go for white/pastels for new borns and q traditional stuff until they're at least 3 months. My tastes are a bit expensive but also like Monsoon , Gap and Next baby stuff

I'm with you Saz, I hated pink as a kid - but then I was a tomboy
Still don't wear it or use it decorating or anything

I outpinked myself with Aila, Veggie!
She was top to toe pink for the first six months. I put her in black a lot now Old people always comment on it
What every self-respecting baby should have

You are sooooo ebiiiilll that the baybee Jeebus will be crying
I quite like black on babies, when my son and DIL got married recently Sebastian had a little black babygro and he looked so cute.
I wanted to get him one of those tuxedo babygros but we left it too late and I didn't realise that they hadn't got him sorted.

LOVE Monsoon but the prices are mad for how long they'll be in the stuff. I like Next, Gap, Zara and there's some nice stuff in the Designers at Debenhams ranges - all those are pretty reasonably priced I think. I like a range of stuff really, I'm loving all the old fashioned smocking on things for girls at the moment. I do like all the pretty dresses with matching knickers and hats for girls and I like preppy things for little boys, like polo shirts and tank tops. I tend to like more pastel shades for girls and brighter colours for boys. I'd rather kids clothes looked like kids clothes though. I'm not keen on all the uber trendy stuff that makes them look like little adults. I don't really get that tbh. I'm loving some of the more unusual stuff online too. I just need to watch how much I'm spending on these things. It could be sooo easy to end up with a wardrobe load of stuff that they'll only get to wear once!

I just assumed that they had got him something special to wear and didn't want to interfere.
Then I was shopping with my DIL a few days before the wedding and she said that they hadn't bothered as they had the plain black one.
I would have liked to see him in a little tux though

Would have been gawj But there is still time for plenty of occasions and plenty of outfits
My nephew was christened when he was 6 months and he had full kilt regalia on Was ever so cute
Oh and Queenie those gro bag things are great! Brilliant for stopping them kicking the covers off then crying because they are cold
I've bought 2 identical gro bags
They were in the sale and match the Moses basket we've got BUT I'm not 100% sure about them. One is a lightweight one for daytime naps, but I don't know what to do about the heavier tog night time one though as everyone seems to suggest that babies are calmer when they're swaddled, which you can't do if they're in a gro-bag. Any suggestions/advice on this would be welcome.

Some babies HATE being swaddled. If your baby loves it but you prefer keeping it lovely and warm in a grobag , how about swaddling it in a sheet and then tucking it in the grobag. I used to do that with my little one

That makes sense. The woman at Mamas & Papas just keptgoing on about having to layer the baby with cardies and mittens under the gro-bag. That sounds like a right faff. I think I'll try the gro-bag for daytimes and blankets etc for the nights to start with and see what baby prefers then.

I need to find one of those 'old fashioned' things that are like a gro bag cum nightdress with drawstrings at the bottom that you put them in after their bath ready for bed...oh how much I love those and them smelling of Infracare and Johnson's and all . My best friend, who's about your age, searched and searched the internet and eventually found something similar...I'll have to get her on the case!

Interesting 'historical' and 'cultural' views about 'swaddling'/ 'back to the womb.' In my experience babies like nothing better than a combination of being 'naked and free' and some lovely snuggles next to a real human person who loves them...Bit like adults really, especially them of us who go knickerless

Ah well, if genetics has anything to do with it, baby will be much more inclined to the naked and free way of thinking.

v.v. nearly but they're proper 'cotton' rather than t-shirt type of cotton if that makes sense, (think Victorian nightdress ..OOO blush) and they have a PROPER drawstring, not bliddy elastic! My local 'posh' baby shop reckons they could make a fortune if they could source them
