Cast your mind back nine years to the first series of Big Brother when Nasty Nickβs scandalous lies and manipulation of the voting process whipped the nation into a frenzy and made the front page of every national newspaper in the UK.
Ten series later and the show has barely raised a mutter at the water cooler let alone sparked serious debate on news and chat shows nationwide.
Today the show has become dull and predictable receiving its lowest viewing figures to date thanks to a houseful of forgettable teens and twenty-something's desperate to forge out a career in front of the camera lens. Who can even remember the boring but nice winner of last yearβs show, Rachel Rice?
Playing out pointless tasks and done-before stunts the show does little more than irritate its viewers, let alone make it into the tabloids. Not good news for a programme which paved the way for a new genre and made reality TV history.
Worryingly, thereβs a Big Brother 11 in the pipeline but can Channel 4 really recapture the attention of its lost viewers? In our opinion itβs time to call it a day on the show and appreciate what was once a great reality TV show but is now sadly just mere meaningless drivel.
