Its a difficult one tbh - the cruelty of Japan was dreadful and can imagine how deep emotions reach and would have done at the time - I hate nuclear weapons and mass destruction but as you say it is a modern perception - then they did not know the consequences at that time and , in context, probably many thought it was deserved /necessary

I agree, we don't know how we would react at that time, looking back it was horrific, but we were not there
