Initially, I felt the same but I’ve warmed to her over the series.
I’ve also read her first book (she has written 3) and enjoyed it.

Ros, her first book is called The Yorkshire Shepherdess. I think it gives you insight into how difficult it was for her to establish herself as a shepherdess and why she might seem a bit hard.
I find her very encouraging with the kids even though she isn’t an overly tactile mum.
