we have the same problem here 15 miles south on the shore line 

They have those safety nets in some places in the Highlands 

Looks very dodgy even now

They have then by the roadside as well as railway lines. I’m always wary when we are driving past them.

yes we have them on the roads too, especially the M6 going through the Lakes

tbh bazzy you are probably right - especially in mid / south -wales - never really taken  a train in those areas - we always drive
