Normally I would agree.

But having recently got a new girlfriend - this was our first valentines day together.

After 2 weeks I know she's a "keeper" so I got her a dozen red roses and a new dressing gown.

None of my ex partners made any effort beyond a card so it was just another day.

I worked yesterday and arranged to go to O/H's place for the evening.

For the first time in my life - someone had made an effort for me.

I opened the door to find a sign saying "you will have to follow the trail to find your presents".

Going up the stairs was a trail of Toblerone Minis leading to the bedroom where she was done up to the nines.

Killer heels, black dress, basque, stockings, suspenders, the works.

She looked fantastic.

And set up in the room on a table was a chocolate fondue with marshmallows, shortbread, grapes, strawberries, cheese, kiwi fruit, and wine.

She'd gone to all that effort for me and that made me feel pretty special and very, very lucky.

I've made a conscious decision not to let the simple things like hugs and affection slip this time - because once the effort stops you just get complacent and take one another for granted.

I had the best valentines night ever.

It was gone 3.00am when we finally went to sleep.....

what a tosser!

One has to applaud the man's genius.

More money than sense, as soon as no one arrives to sit in the reserved seats, people will move over

I had a great day - I got a free cup of tea from Pret cos I was wearing red, then free chocs from First Capital Connect on the way home. Yay free stuff

That would assume that the people together bought tickets in nearby seats and that he was not strictly enforcing his reserved seat status.

Although on reflection I probably think this is an urban myth.
