I adhere to them rigidly..... although Mr Baz would happily eat things out of date!!

I'll use milk until it stops smelling ok, but that works two ways - I'll chuck it out if it's in date and smells a bit creamy.    I'd not eat prawns out of date - but I'm a bit of a wuss that way.

Not me. I have some tomatoes on the vine from November and they still feel relatively firm'ish.

There must a hell of a lot of food wasted in your houses 

same here - I am Mrs Paranoid but OH and son more relaxed - then there is me

and me .If it's out of date it goes in the bin .

The sell by date is there for a reason,why else put it there?

I don't stick to them either, I think it's often down to judgement and of course the 'sniff test'

yep - OH is quite annoyed at times when he goes to eat something and i have chucked it out

That's exactly what I do with milk Kaffy and prawns one day out of date would deffo be a no no, I once had food poisoning with prawns after a take away...I thought I was dying

no it was deffo the prawns...the doctor proved it  I died and came back 

But it's a guide to indicate when you should eat it and when your Prawns should go in the bin 

I eat veg out of date if it looks and smells ok, I mean does it come out of the earth saying eat me by the 25th etc or I will kill you meat or dairy products I do follow the dates

sons Ex GF'S mum had food poisoning from prawns at the graduation - she had to go to hospital

Milk is the only thing I balk at.

With prawns I would cook in a meal where the temperature is high for long enough. Done it with chicken in the past.

yes I am more relaxed with veg - more visible to judge - but anything else especially meat/eggs poultry fish - no  way

If it's a sell by or best before it's a guide - like best before on bread - it won't be mouldy, but it'll probably only be good for toasting.   If it's use by it's a 'safer not to eat it and don't come crying to us if you do and wake up dead'

yes - we had left cos son's ceremony was first in the morning - she was in agony when we left - son had to look after her for a bit -  she saw a bit of the ceremony but not much - and went straight to hospital + hadto have a change of clothes etc
