On paper Andy Murray will meet Novak Djokovic in the semi-final. The winner of that will meet the eventual winner Rafael Nadal in the final. Rafael Nadal will regain the number one in the world rankings with Novak Djokovic slipping to second with Andy Murray remaining in third though David Ferrer will be extremely close.

The women's final will be between Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka, a repeat of last year's final which Serena won and must be favourite to win again.

Dan Evans won through the qualifying rounds and faces the number 11 seed.

Laura Robson, confirmed as the number 30 seed, should, on paper, get through the first round, but this will be her first match since recovering from her wrist injury. Although she is optimistic, only once the match is under way will she know how fully recovered she is.

Heather Watson is lacking in confidence since her bout of glandular fever and has been knocked out in the first round in competions in the run up to the Open. She is drawn against the number 21 seed and she could find this too much.

I‘m tipping No.6 seed Caroline Wozniacki to win the US Open – and without dropping a set!

I could tell from her second round exits at Wimbledon and Paris that her first GS title was just around the corner!

Seriously though, I don’t think Caroline has won any ranking point tournament this season and has disappointed for a second year at all of the slams – yet her world ranking has recently improved.

I just read a tweet saying that in practice Laura Robson still had her right wrist bandaged.

Let's hope it's worn as a precaution only.

Heather Watson's match is the last one on Court 11 so likely to be after midnight tonight in UK time. That's subject to rain which affected yesterday's matches.

She is drawn against the 21 seed Simona Halep and knows this will be a tough test. She has admitted that she came back too soon after glandular fever. She did not progress further than the first round last year or the previous year.

El Loro

Simona Halep did beat Heather Watson 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. Heather Watson had a good start to the match winning the first set and at one stage in the second when the set was 4 games each she was 40-0 but then it all went wrong.

In the first set in particular, there was a new Heather Watson, much more agressive and dominant than in the past. This is what she is aiming for and why she very recently changed her coach. Simona Halep has had a string of successes recently and is likely to go quite far in the Open.

Andy Murray made a good start in the second round beating Michael Llodra 6-2 6-4 6-3. He moves on to face Argentina's Leonardo Mayer on Friday.

Laura Robson won her second round beating Caroline Garcia 6-4, 7-6 (7-5 in the tie break). Her third round match will be against the fifth seed Li Na who she beat last year. There is still concern over her wrist injury and she did have to call a medical timeout after the first set to have her wrist re-wrapped and to take painkillers.

Dan Evans has his second round match against Bernard Tomic today. It's the third match on court 17 this evening.

British number three Dan Evans extended his superb run at the US Open with a four-set victory over Australia's Bernard Tomic in the second round.

Evans, ranked 179, won 1-6 6-3 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 to reach the last 32, where he will face 19th seed Tommy Robredo of Spain.

Dan Evans's ranking will improve from 179 by about 40 places if Robredo beats him, and a lot more if he wins.

Laura Robson's third round match against the fifth seed Li Na is the first match today starting at about 3 pm UK time.

Andy Murray's match against Leonardo Mayer will start at around 11pm.

El Loro

Defending champion Andy Murray withstood some heavy hitting from Argentina's Leonardo Mayer to reach the third round of the US Open in four sets.

Murray, seeded third, dropped his first set of the tournament as he came through 7-5 6-1 3-6 6-1 in two hours and 41 minutes.

He will face Germany's Florian Mayer, the world number 47, in the last 32 on Sunday.

Dan Evans's third round match against Tommy Robredo (seeded 19th) is expected to start about 9pm UK time this evening. The winner is likely to face Roger Federer in the 4th round.
