I agree, it's definitely not true. Winemakers first thought that the wine wouldn't keep as well in a screwtop bottle, but they have been proved wrong and most of them have changed over to screwtops now. Also, there's a shortage of cork so it won't be long before wine bottles with a cork will be a thing of the past.
