Same here Baz and nothings in my cupboards long enough to collect dust but I still rinse everything including pans before I use them....

I do that. I always thought it's a bit weird, everything is clean and still, I have to rinse before I cook.

Not me......But I would always freshly wash glasses etc. that have been hanging around for a bit before using them.....And I'm utterly intrigued by what this smell might be that is referred too

I store everything right way up.

In the pub I store glasses right way up,the rim is never on the work surface.

Now, that I couldn't cope with......why???

I suppose there's something to be said for that Erin. Glasses are always on the go in the pub

the pub I am cooking for keep their glasses upside down, as when they are fresh out the dishwasher, any drips of water in them drain out onto these plastic square draining things...

I quite like that scraping into the food caddy. Normally that would end up in the big bin and smell the place out for 2 weeks. When the small bag is full up, I take it out to the bigger caddy, which is quite well sealed and it's out of the house.

We have to. We have a small 'slop bucket' in the kitchen - we have to use compostable bin liners (have you seen the price of them )

This is emptied into a large slop bucket/kitchen waste bin outside.

I hated the thought of it - now it just seems like common sense

I just normally take anything smelly straight out to the bin anyway 

Council should be giving you vouchers or equivalent to make you do that for them

I did sprouty, but the trouble with 2 week collection meant that we always ended up with maggots in the bin and the caddy has managed to sort that problem out. Both, the small one inside and the bigger one outside are well sealed and flies can't get at it. I suppose it doesn't matter so much in the winter.

Hehe! we had to, or they wouldn't take our rubbish. Bins were delivered one week....next week....use them! I've got three bins on me drive at the minute. Grey bin for ordinary rubbish,blue bin with caddy for glass and cardboard and stuff and green one for garden waste 

Huh, we have to pay an extra £30 odd quid a year if we want them to collect our garden waste

Ah, we've still got weekly collections here but I also guess it's how many in the household = how much rubbish there is. Mine only goes out once every two weeks with the recycling

I love this thread... I used to think I had issues!  

I'm not liking the food caddy - no matter how much sense it makes.    It either has to sit near the sink or on the floor in the way.. and it looks hideous to boot.   The worst thing though is unlike the normal kitchen bin - you have to touch it to open it,   I'd feel much better if it was a stainless steel pedal bin and i'm toying with the idea of getting a baby one of them this weekend.

We have four bins now - paper, garden waste and food, plastic and tin, and a landfill one.   We still have to go to the bottle bank with glass.    I seriously stress now when I'm making dinner...about where all the bits go!       If i have really smell food waste (like Indian or something) I'd take it to the outside bin  - but with three flights of stairs I'm not doing that with every plate scraping.   

You never know whats been in things....

My sis is in Cupar.

We have a caddy in the blue one for paper and the cardboard and plastic and glass and cans go in the main body. I always make sure I'm nowhere around outside my house when I'm off work and they come to collect the bin  

I am Velvet.     The Kingdom of the multi coloured bins.    I'm lucky - I have a decent space to keep them all - pity anyone with just a small piece of garden.      Although... I think I did read somewhere the Fife has one of the best records for recycling in the UK.

My Dad's 86 and not what he used to be mentally.   They'll probably refuse to empty his bins.    i feel for older people trying to sort it all out - I just about had to write myself a manual!

A certain amount of germs keep you healthy........As for the scrap food caddy thing, gave that up ages ago, all goes in black bags in the non recyclable bin......I know they do not need my waste food to make compost.

We have the small green slop bucket/kitchen waste thing, and the larger one that goes outside. Then a black wheelie bin for non recycling stuff, and a green wheelie bin for recyclable stuff. If we want a brown bin for garden waste we have to pay on top of our council tax. So I don't. And the lorry comes down the road anyway and picks up the rubbish from the houses that pay  (I just cheat and disguise it in my black bin )

We sit our glasses on the plastic grids they have dripped dried by the time they are put up at the gally.Its a dishwasher we need to purchase but we need to hold a meeting and have the members approve the purchase,they dont like to spend money.
