Hi, all:
We're very excited to be releasing an update that makes the software responsive. In case you're not familiar with that term, it means that the software will adapt to any size screen, meaning that you won't have to squint at your smart phone any more. This was a huuuge update, touching almost every bit of code. It's already been through an extensive beta process, so hopefully we've worked out most of the bugs by now.
The upgrade is going to happen on November 30th (next week!) There will be up to 4 hours of downtime on that Monday, between 4pm and 2am your time (I think I have it right, this time). I will post to remind you about the downtime, closer to the event.
I think you are going to like the change (I love working with the new version, which we are already using on our support site). I've taken a couple of screen shots so you can see the difference in the way things look (especially on your phones!)
Here are a few shots of the new site as viewed from your computer:
The first big thing you'll notice is that we are using more of the page, now. Instead of having 3 columns but using 2, we're using a big left-hand column and the smaller right column. This makes it much more readable. One of the coolest things about the new version on your computer, is that if you have to shrink your browser window for some reason, you'll no longer cut off half the page - instead the page will adjust to the size of your browser.
The posting window is different, too--we went with a different editor.
Here are some screenshots from my phone, though, which I think you'll like, since lots of you participate via your phones/ipads/tablets.
