I have two songs that have very special meaning to me.  One is "Three times a lady" by the Commodores, this has always been one of my favourite songs ever and the story is that Lionel Richie wrote this song for his mum and dad on their anniversary.  I played this song on a tape in the car on the way to my first date with Mr Pink and it became our song, and when we got married, we had the song as our first dance in our back garden where our wedding reception was held.  The sun was shining, it was a perfect June evening and we danced in front of our friends and family ~ it was just perfect.

The other song is "Nessun Dorma" by Paravotti.  Back in 1990 my family like a lot of people got totally involved in the World Cup in Italy.  The BBC used this piece of music as it's theme to the World Cup and my beloved nan fell in love with it, she also loved the Three Tenors concert at that time as well.  That Christmas I walked round Birmingham to find the Three Tenors album that had come out so as she could  listen to it.  She used to play it all the time until she died suddenly in September 1991.  I still 19 years on can't listen to that piece of music  without thinking of my wonderful nan and crying, I hear it and I have to leave the room or turn the radio over, it instantly makes me cry.

So dedicated to Mr Pink with all my love.
And to my wonderful nan who I miss every single day all my love.

And yes, I cried just finding this on You Tube.

I chose the following for some of my friends once.  I think it's beautiful just like them.
It's Tracy's song and yet Pavarotti blends so seamlessly.  Who says you can't mix the genres?

I guess the Big Fella made an impact on many of us.

Loved your choices and the reasons behind them.

It's fabulous Cos.....just fabulous.....and I know I've told you this before but the BEST concert I ever went to was when Tracy Chapman was headlining a Sunday celebration of black music at Brixton Academy......fabulous fabulous gig.....then early evening....Walter Sisulu came on with the African National Congress Choir and announced that Nelson Mandela had been released...can you just imagine the atmosphere??!!?? At which point, we had to decide whether to catch the last train home to Norwich or stay 'til the end and hang around 'til the first morning train at 7am.....no prizes for guessing what we opted for!

Early morning bacon sarnies in one of the cafes under the arches in Atlantic Avenue, by any chance? (I used to go to there when it was the Astoria and watch the Saturday morning pictures).

I've avoided posting in this thread, but my dad died three years ago and this was the song we chose, He was run over by a Volvo and he had numerous broken bones including his back....he never once complained, never once said he was unlucky and never once blamed anyone for it....he was my hero and I still cant listen to it. This is the only link I have to the one we played at his funeral, it was so very apt.

This reminds me  of my Brother who died 1year past in June. Terrible loss to my 2 sisters and me. He looked forward to retirement  and was diagnosed  with cancer  when he was 65 and passed away before he was 66 Miss him..
