Not a huge fan of fresh salmon, I have to say.  Find it a bit 'milky'.

I love salmon poached, never tried smoked but would (pleb )and cannot stand anything fishy out of a tin. Ergh!

I love shark, that's like a fishy pork chop.

I love smoked salmon ... for Christmas some friends bought us some from a Scottish smokery (is that the right word??). It was so different from the slimey supermarket stuff. So if you are going to try it for the first time, go for the real thing Totally delish

Suppose if I had to choose favourites it would be monkfish and gurnard.  Gurnard's great cause it's mainly bicatch so it's dead cheap but the texture and flavour is far superior to cod or sea bass or whatever.  Don't often see it though - think most of the time it's chucked back in the sea cause it's not worth much.

They also croak vocally when the are taken out the water.  Used to catch them all time when we went fishing and you pull 'em into the boat and you're just deciding what to do with it when the effing thing starts talking to you.  Most off-putting.

Salmon is a bit overrated, meh... 
A lovely tasty fish I tried recently is Coley ( sustainable too ).. Just grill or microwave it with a little salt and butter....delicious

Gurnardeo.  Tis indeed prized in the Med for all the various fish stews/soups.

I ate sea cucmber when I visited China years ago...supposedly a great delicacy. Then I read recently that they are bottom feeders, hoovering up all the crap and waste from the sea bed... *puke*

Really popular up here in NE England, for some reason.  I've always found it odd how fish is a really regional thing in England, dunno what it's like round the rest of the UK and Ireland but we even have different names for the same fish.

I used to feed that to my two cats, every now and again  

Rock (or Rock Salmon, lolz) is dogfish.  Seems popular in some parts but pretty much unavailable in others.

Yeah, we call it dogfish and it's dead popular here.  Mention it to someone from elsewhere and they look confused, say "Rock" they understand but wonder why we eat it

There's another fish that we call pollymog, has a totally different name in the rest of the country...can't remember what it is right now.

Pollymog is a Hartlepool word though, not sure what the rest of the NE calls it either (probably something different yet again)
