I do like Nuts 2. But if a robot can get in close their weapon seems less effective.

That seems to be the idea behind their cluster-bots - to keep their opponent out of striking distance...
I don't think it's that close. For me there is one clear aggressor.

That's true.
I think their added armour impeded them there.

The damage to their "Nuts-busters" hampered their ability to drive upside-down.
