TBH, it's not one I personally use that often. I reserve it for times of dire need.

Is it definitely the last, no more going to be made?

TBH I had not looked into it, but 4 episodes would seem like it's closing off the remainder of the story.

Some of the previews were referring to tonight's episode as the "final" one in a way that implied it would be very final. I've been avoiding actual plot spoilers, but Kay did an interview with BBC Radio Manchester where he stated that there would definitely not be a 3rd series or even any Christmas specials. I was surprised he went as far as ruling out Christmas specials, but after seeing the last episode it makes sense that he's definitely "done".

That does read as "That's All Folks!"

Although he has left it open just in case he ever decides to do a one off - but thinking about it, I would probably prefer that to be all we get.

Me too.

Although he doesn't reference it, my immediate thought on reading Kay's comments was of "Faulty Towers": very much the benchmark for "quitting while you're ahead". (As an aside, and with the Victoria Wood tributes continuing on the BBC: I discovered recently that Wood cited "Faulty Towers" as influencing her decision to limit "Dinnerladies" to two series.)

Kay's "No Christmas special" comment seems particularly pointed: I think a lot of viewers (myself included) just assumed there would be one, given that John's "Christmas team" had been a significant sub-plot throughout the show...

Upon mature reflection, I think you're right EC  Left as it is, it's a litttle gem of a comedy.

Isn't it hilarious that the drunken blue smurf Elsie was played by Conleth Hill [Varys from Game of Thrones ]    He also played Peter Kay's / Geraldine's mum in that X Factor spoof he did... I can remember that character lol

The third series of "Hinterland" starts tomorrow on BBC4 at 9pm.

Ooo...is that with the copper with issues Eugene ??

Erm... That could be any cop show, Baz.

It looks like you've already remembered, but it's the Welsh one. (Its USP is that the dialogue's partly in Welsh, and it's already been broadcast on BBC1 Wales.)

Just seen the trailer for the Kat & Alfie "EastEnders" spinoff "Redwater". Can you believe that it's over a year since they left the soap and the spinoff in Ireland was set up?

I stopped watching EE years ago, but from the clip it just looks like the same old Kat and Alfie angst and arguments in a different setting.

Actually, this does seem to be something a bit different. The makers are insisting it's not a soap, and are likening it to "Broadchurch" - which will probably make a lot of people  but it does appear to be more of a mystery thriller. And it's directed by Jesper W Nielsen, who did "Borgen"...

I've said in the past that I'm not a great one for "binge watching": I've enough problems keeping up with regular weekly shows as it is. I'm therefore going to be in for a difficult week as I try to take in the Oscar-winning documentary series "OJ: Made in America", which starts tonight (Sunday) at 9pm on BBC4.

Five 90 minute episodes broadcast on consecutive nights!

Another heads-up:

I've been banging-on for years now about "Detectorists" - the quite lovely sitcom about metal detector fanatics played by Mackenzie Crook and Toby Jones.

For those who still haven't seen it, BBC2 are repeating the first series, starting at 10pm on Monday. It's not clear at the moment, but I'm assuming they will continue with the second series too. They're filming a third and final series this summer for broadcast at the end of the year.

I thought about that too - but I have the same problem (89% on the TIVO box and counting)   I've got Three Girls shown on three nights this week too...

Did you watch the dramatised version of the OJ trial, Eugene?  I did enjoy that.

Has anyone caught 'Mind the Age Gap' on Channel 5?     I've been recording it and so far watched the first two.  Sort of Big Brother-ish without the focus on getting your baps out, faux romance (except a brief couple of minutes of two gay guys having a quick snog)  and making a career afterwards.   Six 'old' people (60ish - 80+) and six young ones in a house to see if they can appreciate each others viewpoints.  I'm quite enjoying it so far - some confrontation, but is seems real and not played out for the cameras - if they take this attitude into BB they'd do well.

It's well worth a watch Eugene. I worried it would be a slog, but ended up flying through it on iplayer

"The People v. O. J. Simpson": yes, I watched that and yes, I though it was very good too.

(Funnily enough, they're currently repeating that late night on BBC2.)

I watched the live broadcasts of the trial as it happened. Totally rivveting. And so meticulous!

Yes it was. I recommend this latest documentary Fluffy. Goes through it again but with a meticulous examination of historical racial problems. I found the jury selection and interviews with a couple of jurors fascinating [ think it was no.9... she'd make your jaw drop ]. Also how the prosecution slipped up, and the defence - especially Johnny Cochran the ultimate showman - played a smarter hand.

Sounds like you're an OJ trial buff, so you probably knew it anyway

I didn't really follow the trial closely at the time, but I did really enjoy ' The People v's O J Simpson' (thanks Eugene - the name escaped me!)     I've set the BBC 4 series to record.

Anyone watching 'The 15 Billion Pound Railway'?

Crossrail.

Absolutely fascinating engineering project.

Because of RL matters I'm watching it on delay, but I'm taking a bit of a professional interest.

The first series was very much about Crossrail so I don't know if they're going to mention it, but part of the reason Farringdon Station is so important is that it's the point at which the East-West Crossrail line intersects the North-South Thameslink line - when everything's finished, it will be seeing something over 150 trains an hour!
