For some reason Mrs Jer always listens to her favourite cousin's TV tips.

As a result we've seen some right stinkers. Last night's tip was Victoria. I'm so interested in this royal family period, in fact we saw an excellent exhibition concerning the House Hannover at Marienburg Castle in July.

I'm afraid we spent the latter half laughing, Mrs Jer set me off, since it was at best awkward! We'll have to watch the first episodes now.

Have you seen the film "The Young Victoria", starring Emily Blunt? It covers much the same ground as the TV series in a much shorter time. The screenplay is by Julian Fellowes: not perhaps his best work, but I found myself discussing the film with a friend who studied the period as part of her History degree, and I managed to just about hold my own over such matters as the "Bedchamber Crisis"...

Eugene's Lair

Paul Connolly is getting himself locked up in two of Manila's toughest prisons for a documentary.

I wonder how much actual protection he gets.

Apparently the "Sputnik Gang" run the inside of the prison and that includes discipline.

He's off to meet them - but it actually seems like they are conducting a documentary from inside the prison.

He will be OK.

Think Tank

This has to be one of the most boring quiz shows the BBC have come up with yet. Clearly a vehicle for the now ex-breakfast presenter and part time bee keeper Bill Turnbull.

The BBC could save money by axing this show although the prize money is nearly the amount of change in my back pocket.

I wouldn't mind that change in my back pocket at the minute

Keith Richards' Lost Weekend.  Started tonight on BBC4 and continues through the weekend - I'll be dipping in and out and recording bits too.

Watched....and it made my weekend, made me laugh, smile, think.....and gave me a great respect for his 'job' done well in shaping a bit of society then and now.
