I think that some of this is just made up - for effect!

They said that the 70s would be the first decade that the parents would remember living through, so that means they're not hugely younger than me. So how come none of the stuff we've seen from the 50s onwards would faze me, but they act like it's all alien to them!

I agree... gammon - is that pork, she says.... and she couldn't fry an egg.   I think she's just a hopeless cook!

To give her her due, it was said that in their normal life, he does most of the cooking.

I have memories of living on it when I was dieting back in the day - it was low calorie.   Cod and watery sauce with cabbage...
