i have made notes of all the helpful hints and will be conducting further experiments, should the blow method not work.

I SO wish I could be there to watch that.       You do realise that that guy's a magician right....

Is he ? I thought it was genuine . jacksonb will let us know if it can be done .

Nail polish remover    I think it's supposed to be acetone free... or maybe it's with acetone... It's sticky roulette!

Does that work Kaffy, thanks ,I'll try it on a new vase I got from M&S that I spent ages picking away at to no avail.?,I bought that Sticky Stuff product but didn't find it worked well, took forever to get rid of the smoky film it left on glass.

Butter (or marge I suppose) works a treat, I found it out by accident, it totally melts the sticky residue away, try it it's amazing.

Get some GooGone(Amazon site)you will not be disappointed.

But try the butter first, doesn't cost anything and believe me it works

eggsperiment update.

i tried the  blow method, it was all going well until i grapsed the egg ready for the blowing, and i crumpled the shell, so ended up with an eggs covered in miniscule bits of eggshell.I admit to not having any bicarbonate of soda.

However!!

I then tried a combination of methods mentioned in the thread, i boiled the eggs for about 10 mins in water that covered them completely. poured out the hot water, took  the egg and  tapped it on the  worktop and  peeled a little  bit then did the same to the other end, i then plunged it into cold water, and  later when it was cold peeled it.

 brilliant!!!

You must be a saint - if this isn't finished by next weekend (preferably before) I'm leaving home (and taking my lappy with me).

Soozy it was terrible, really terrible.Didn't help matters that the plasterer fell and broke his wrist so was out of action for 6 weeks.I would have felt bad if I'd got another plasterer so we'd to rearrange how we'd scheduled the work around the plastering. There were days the joiners were out the back sawing etc ,dust raining down like snow, the sparks in the front garden doing prep, one day I was trapped in the living room with Eamon and the dog, power tools startled Eamon  and he started crying ,the doors were all blocked and I was seconds away from climbing out the living room window with him .When you get to the choosing tiles stage you're on the home run, once  the *Dirty* work is over it's not too bad,and it's such a relief.I am sure you'll be delighted with the end finish ,it's lovely when it's all new .

It will - they've just this minute packed up for the day and i've just been in to run my hands over the new plaster - it's still a bomb site out there and quite a bit to do but I'm a bit smiley TBH. I'm picking my boys up at 3.30 ..................then the fun will begin!!

Soozy Woo

I feel for you sooz. When we had some major work done I phoned hubby who should have been at home on a day off ... He was out at a shopping centre. When I asked him why he said that he fancied a cup of coffee, and if he made one at home he would have had to make 22 cups for all the workmen, so he'd gone out to a cafe!

I leave them to it ..................TBH - I can live without tea and coffee - My main builder who is lovely doesn't do hot drinks and only lets his boys stop off every so often (he's very strict) all the stuff and biccies are out there - they can (and do) get on with it.

When Mr woo comes in he makes drinks for everyone (he must drink 12 or more cups of tea a day).
