Renton's Holidays post has made me think. You've all always been so helpful with people's queries, so thought I'd see if you can help me!

I haven't been abroad for a holiday since, ermmmm, how long? Yes, 1986! I have just got a new passport and am planning on going to visit my brother in Bermuda. I haven't seen him since that year, and as my other brother passed on in January, without me seeing him for the same amount of time, I feel the time has come to go back to the place of my teenage years, see my brother, maybe see my nephew for the first time, before it's too late. I can only do that because of no hotel costs, but I have no idea what is required when travelling these days.

Where can I find out what luggage allowance I will have, what jabs are needed for there, what paperwork is required, what restrictions there is on toiletries or the like, what I have to do to be able to take my medication, jeez just about everything! I'm so out of the loop

Can anyone point me in the right direction please?  Thanks.

Hi Jen x

Luggage allowance, check your airline website (although the allowance should be printed on your ticket or will be in the information that comes with the ticket) Depending on the length of your stay depends on the allowance but they're usually quite generous.

Jabs and medication queries - check with the nurse at your GP surgery (they should be able to answer the paperwork question as well - if not, your agent should be able to)

Restrictions on what you can take on the flight (toiletries) - should be on the BAA website, or ask the agents you booked the flight with for confirmation. (As the airports are on a higher level alert cos of Osama kicking the bucket it might have changed again)

Might be worth double checking your travel insurance if it includes medical cover (i.e. if you need to have medical treatment over there) some insurances cover you immediately, with others, you have to pay for the treatment and claim it back.

I would imagine you'll have a 2 or 3 hour check in period - always try and get through passport control and security as soon as you can, because as above, it's probably a lot more stringent and you don't want to risk missing your flight. x

No worries doll! xx  Expedia are quite a good site for flight only and (usually) find the cheapest option, beware of how many connections you may have to make though. Another thing you could do is next time you're in town, pop into the travel agents and just ask for a rough guide on how much return flights are to Bermuda, if you can fly from your nearest airport (you may need to go from another one), and also the best and most convenient route. They may try selling you one there and then but if you explain it's for info only at this stage as you're not travelling for ages yet then hopefully they won't badger you to book on the spot.

Re flight costs, current climate can have an effect on prices so keep an eye on what's going on in the world Am away again now but if you need a hand I'm sure people on here will be more than happy to help (Zaph's good at this stuff, too) and feel free to PM me if you need to as well. Catch you later, D xxx
