alot of kids don't have any ideas though col........they don't go out and destroy their community because of it............i would bet more than half don't even care if they get a job or not......where's the fun in getting up at 6 on a cold winters morning when you can stay in bed til lunchtime and then saunter off and meet your mates a bit later.....they don't want a job......it's too much effort.....too much interference on their lifestyle......as i said earlier.....can you honestly see the kids doing this putting in 12 hour days 5/6/7 days a week.......i can't

spongey, all of this is what's wrong with our society. Why are these kids so complacent. Wherever you see a decent community programme to get them off their butts and do something to make them feel proud about themselves, they seem to perk up and carry on living a fairly good life. Why does it have to be so hard to do it for them all?

no one has told these rioters to go out and do this...they've chosen too.....they've chosen to partake in the type of behaviour croc described in her post and more.......they're just mindless loutish thugs who wouldn't want a job if it ran up to them singing and dancing in the street shouting 'pick me'.....

why would they work when they can sponge the system...sleep in til midday...and behave exactly how they want when they want with no one to answer too.can anyone honestly see the types croc described putting in a 12 hour day 5/6 days a week?....no chance!

they are to blame.......they love the mindless violence....... they thrive on it...but of course they're not as brave as they'd like you to think...hence the covering of their faces

Agree with every word, Spongey.

Agreed too

These are the people we should focus on and help...not the scum who have ruined so many livelihoods and families.

Because they have been devalued by the 'benefits for all' system...they have no sense of their value because they have never had to look for it.

i don't live in that area col.........but i do know in my town there's quite a few lads who are well known to police and people in the area.........if they get an asbo they moan it's against 'their rights and is unfair'.........if they get community service 'it's a drag'......if they get put on a work placement 'it's crap'..........they don't want to do anything other than lounge about doing what they want when they want.....they don't want to be told what to do.....they don't like the authority

Looking at those ferocious fires I'm amazed that no one has been killed ........................can someone please explain to me what is the point?

Actually - I know what the point is - it's get in there and grab what you can. DISGUSTING! The thing is - these thugs have actually destroyed their own communities and what little provision there was has now been ruined! TBH - I can't get my head round this!

Exactly Syd...ultimate responsibility for the children lies with the parents/guardians...

You mean like re-grouping on there and structuring where too loot and torch next?

Sorry Cologne but it's not the government's job to look after these kids.......  it's the parents....

Lizzy Davies is filing from Hackney:

Full scale looting going on at Clarence convenience store right by the burning car on clarence road. "One by one" shouts one man as people crowd round to get into the shop, whose entrance has been smashed in. Women calling: can you get me a magazine? Other people asking for alcohol. A photographer is being threatened by a guy and press moving away. But others still smashing in rest of shop front.

The situation is highly volatile. A man was just hit over the head with a bottle and punched in the face. A witness said his assailant was a woman. He was left bleeding down the back of his neck. The apparent motive for the assault was that the man was taking photos. But he told police afterwards that he hadn't been doing that when he was targeted, so the circumstances remain unclear.

Maybe I am missing something but what has been done to them, have they been isolated from the rest of the UK.They are not looting because of economic climate, they are looting because they are thieving bastards.
