I'm old enough to remember the riots of the late 70's/early 80's in London. The more things change the more they stay the same.

Same police abusing their powers, same so called community leaders using the trouble to push their own agenda, same bandwagon jumping kids looking to thieve under the banner of disenfranchised yoof.

This.

(The Danny Dyer bit made me chuckle too, Veggie )

Au contraire! The Grauniad predicted these riots about ten days ago in a couple of well researched articles.

My favourite LOL bit of last night's coverage was when some local leader agreed that the Knob had a gun but wasn't really intending to use it.

Just nicked this quote from BBC News...it's from Ros Griffiths who runs an 'Employment Cafe' in Brixton...

"Young people who feel vulnerable feel that there's no jobs, there's no future, there's no prospects. They feel that nobody cares about them so they don't care.

"They've lost respect for authority because at the end of the day if it was just about what happened in Tottenham, that'd be an isolated situation. That was just a trigger," Ms Griffiths says

Well...we have even less respect for them (the rioters) now....and there are even less jobs to be had thanks to their wanton destruction of so many businesses.

From what I've heard in other places there seems as if there might have been a few unanswered questions about some of the alleged treatment by the police in Tottenham, His shooting was (I understand) just a catalyst that sparked what started as a peaceful protest.

As usual with these things, Rent-A-Mob came in and hi-jacked it.

I think all of this is true, but it doesn't justify the behaviour of the opportunists. All this stuff is as old as the world, ppl have looted for thousands of years and taken their chance hanging off the back of somebody else's problem. In the moment, we seem to be back to the early '80 and guess who was in power.

Asbo's that have no career prospects causing chaos and looting? Nothing new...

Happens all the time with young people, they jump on the bandwagon of a protest/story and use rioting as an excuse. Shame that even if some do get caught, they face very little punishment. Pull any of that sh*t in places like Saudi Arabia and they get their hands cut off.

Exactly Erin, plenty of people are also in their situation, but wouldn't do this

Seems like the smoke is from the aforementioned bus which appears to have set the adjoining building on fire.
