Is anyone having a problem with these little bloody blighters? Me and my daughter were out in the garden today (and yesterday) and we have been plastered in the little buggars! There are 1000s of them all around, and they are EVERYwhere! I live in the West mids, not far from Wolverhampton. Anyone else in this area (or nearby) had the same problem? Or anyone not in this area for that matter...

I'll go off at a tangent.
Green Onions

We were remarking about it yesterday. No greenfly on our roses. So I suppose thanks are in order to the good people of the West Midlands for taking them all.
Oh Hi Joe. So were there folk from the West mids saying they had had lots of the pesky buggars? But not really any other area?
I assume you have had heavy rain this week like most places and then this humid hot weather for the last 2 days there is the reason
The eggs hatch at an incredible rate if the weather is drastically changed, expect more of it sorry to say

I guess you could have a point STP, but I have just never known this many greenfly before, and I wondered if anyone else was suffering from them, more than in previous summers? We certainly are.quote:Originally posted by Sink the Pink:

I can only speak for my own gardens. They are unable to speak for themselves.
I'm down South and we've had a huge problem too.
They infested early this year and I've been regularly zapping them with a bug gun.
They're under control now.

We have had a crazy amount since Thursday and i am not in the midlands, most of my plants are covered in them
Flying ants are next
got them too - every bloody where. West mids too
Spraying them with a solution of washing up liquid and water is supposed to get rid of them.
Thanks Cosmo, Sink, Pigeon and Koala. I appreciate your replies. Not just here where I am then. So the south are having them too huh? Bloody things. There are definately more than usual. It's put me off going into the garden this past few days.
Helen, thanks hun, but there's just too many; they are all in the air: 1000s and 1000s of them

No noticeable greenfly here.
You want to get yourself some ladybird friendly plants. Ladybirds just LOVE greenfly.

We have them here in the North East. I hung some washing out and they were all over the light stuff.

You could do a google search to find an organic way to get rid of them. Ladybirds and spiders will eat them, or maybe that's aphids??
I think fairy liquid - a drop in a gallon of water and sprayed on the plants is supposed to kill them.

I was going to mention this but realised that they were complaining about being covered with them rather than the plants.
Thanks Suzi. problem is though: as i said to helen, they are all in the air and there are so many that they're very hard to get atquote:Originally posted by Suzi-Q:

Thanks BBaddict. North South AND mids so far, so looks like a national problem.quote:Originally posted by BBaddict:quote:Originally posted by Cheeky-Pixie:

Are you sure that they're greenfly?
What you're describing (and I've got this problem too) is midgies.
Swirling in a group, are they?

Are you taking midges or gnats now, greenfly wont be flying around everywhere, they will be sapping your plants dry.
Do you have water near you as in a garden pond close by
No they're definately greenflyquote:Originally posted by ~Cosmopolitan~:quote:Originally posted by Cheeky-Pixie:Thanks Suzi. problem is though: as i said to helen, they are all in the air and there are so many that they're very hard to get atquote:Originally posted by Suzi-Q:

Did you know that one can buy Ladybird nests?
I can't imagine how they would work.
No, we don't have any water near, and they aren't gnats. Definately greenfly. Judging by this thread; others are suffering too.quote:Originally posted by Sink the Pink:quote:they are all in the air and there are so many that they're very hard to get at

Yes, I don't know quite how they work either. I haven't seen much mention of them anywhere and didn't know if anyone would know what I was talking about if I'd mentioned them.quote:Originally posted by Garage Joe:quote:Originally posted by Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing:Me too Joe, that's why I only mentioned the ladybirds.quote:Originally posted by Garage Joe:quote:Originally posted by Hotpants Helen:
