Ah yes. It is fun when you know the locations. I'm guessing the Riverlands and the Vale are NI, Kings Landing will be Croatia and up North will be Iceland. Used to sit during Taggart location spotting (once they used the garage under the bridge in our street and Merkland Street bus station whilst I was sitting (hiding below the window) on the bus. )

Where you up to? I've started part 2 of the 5th book.

I'll let you off with the names, there's so darn many of them.

Here's a list of important people so far.

Starks:

Eddard "Ned": father

Catelyn "Cat": mother (nee Tully)

Robb: eldest son (wolf: Greywind)

Sansa: Eldest daughter (wolf: Lady)

Brandon "Bran": middle son (wolf: Summer)

Rickon : youngest son (wolf: Shaggydog)

Arya: youngest daughter (wolf: Nymeria)

Jon Snow: Ned's bastard (wolf: Ghost)

Theon Greyjoy: Ned's ward/hostage/prat

Bathareons

Robert: King dude

Renly: youngest brother (there's another brother, he's not around yet)

Cersei: Queen

Jaime Lannister: Cersei's twin brother.

Tyrion Lannister: the twins' younger brother; dwarf

Joffery: entitled little brat of a future king. (his siblings Myrcella and Tommen are lovely though.)

Council

Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish: pimp

Grand Maester Pycelle: "doddery" old maester

Varys: Eunuch, spy master general

Targeryan

Danearys "Dany": exiled princess

Vysaris: Dany's elder brother

Khal Drogo: Dany's husband; tribal leader

Ser Jorah Mormont: exiled knight

Not sure who is at the Wall as of yet...

Lord Commander Mormont: big boss man; Jorah's dad

Ser Alister Thorne: master of arms, not very nice

Maester Aemon: nice guy, blind, could've been king

I think Pyp, Grenn and Dareon are there, not sure about Samwell Tarly and Dolorous Edd Tollett... you'll know them when you see them. There are those who would suggest 4 of those 5 aren't important enough to mention, but Dolorous Edd is a favourite of mine.

Anyone I've forgotten, let me know... trying not to be spoilery.

Glad you are enjoying it.

Bronn? aye, think I heard the name. Samwell - he's the portly nice one. Dolorous Edd... is he another one of the newly trained Night Watch?

3 eps of series 1 to go - King Robert has just died + Eddard has been nabbed/betrayed. It fairly rattles along  Its great the way the characters are neither fully bad nor fully good.

Glad to see him back, he's very good in the role too.

Some locations looked like Tollymore Forest Park to me... googled and yes!

Chuffed that it was also filmed in the nearby Mourne Mountains - very close to where I lived [until age 10]. Fairly bleak place - not as striking as Scotland, but then NI DID slip the G.O.T. producers several million ÂĢ to make it there

Yeah... the infamous Red Wedding. In hindsight, Robb never had a Point of View chapter... it should maybe have been a clue. Yeah, wasn't that fussed about losing him and can't remember her name (in my defense, she should've been Jeyne Westerling, but isn't) either.

Ramsey Snow... you wouldn't be surprised that he's known as the Bastard of Bolton... Literally and figuratively.

The books are good, I'm on part 2 of the last one, definitely worth a read... there's a lot of elements the shows misses out.

My favourites generally aren't big characters. I love Dolorous Edd, Edmure Tully, Pod, Tyrion, Jorah Mormont, Arya, Dany and dragons. I dislike Cersei, Littlefinger, Tywin... not too many I dislike, as you said, people have their good and bad bits.
